In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver, among others, the implementation of a new organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts of Translator. The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for a position in the Directorate of Conference Management and Publications (DCMP). 1. Job Title: Grade: Supervisor: Unit: Duty Station: 2.
Major duties and responsibilities: a. To translate the text from an AU official language into French, ensuring a high standard of accuracy, and maintaining the style, quality and effectiveness of the original version; b. To keep abreast with developments in both the source and target languages by regularly up-dating specific terminologies, phrases, special expressions, nuances, lexicons and acronyms; c. To expand vocabulary through reading and making appropriate references in order to enhance skill and ability to efficiently translate into excellent French; d. To perform any other duty as may be assigned.
3. Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have at least a Masters University Degree in Languages or Linguistics and a professional qualification from a recognised school of Translation. A higher qualification will be an added advantage. 4. Work experience: Candidates must have Eight (8) years of progressively professional relevant working experience in Translation.
2 5. OTHER RELEVANT SKILLS: 6. Computer literacy; Excellent knowledge of French and a source language. A good knowledge of a third AU official language would be an added advantage; Excellent writing skills.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT: Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Proficiency of one or several other working language(s) would be an added advantage.

TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The appointment will be made on fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months be consider as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables. 8. LEAST REPRESENTATIVE COUNTRIES:
Candidates from the following least represented countries are encouraged to apply: Eritrea, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC), Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Namibia, Sahrawi Arab Republic, SaoTome and Principe, Seychelles and Somalia. 9. Indicative basic salary of US$ 35,300.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance US$ (as per the assigned Duty station per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
