Yara has an affiliate company Ethiopotash BV in Ethiopia which is engaged in development of potash mineral resources at Dallol, Afar Region. The project is looking for a Community LiaisonOfficer, located in Dallol, Afar Region, Ethiopia.
The Community Liaison will play an important communication role and act as the link between the local community, stakeholders and project team in identifying key issues and concerns as well as facilitate project objectives.
This position is on a local contract.

Responsibilities
Manage relationships effectively with impacted communities and other stakeholders to identify and manage their issues and concern in a structured and proactive approach:
- Identify key stakeholders
- Build and maintain relationships with local community stakeholders, including local authorities, tribe leaders, religious leaders and NGOs.
- Provide regular information and project updates to the local community and relevant stakeholders.
- Identify and feedback to the project team any enquiries, grievances or issues from local community.
- Provide feedback on issues escalated to the project team back to the relevant stakeholders.
- Identify community needs and manage expectations when initiating local partnerships or collaborations
Supports the Social Impact Assessment study
- Understands the social impact of the project on the communities in the area, and brings in community perspective to the mitigation activities.
- Identify and raise key issues/impacts of concern within the company e.g. unmitigated impacts, perception on impacts etc.
Profile
- Minimum Bachelors degree in social sciences.
College Diploma in any relevant fields is also acceptable if candidate has strong work experience. Desired Masters Degree in social sciences. - Minimum: 5 years working experience with relevant exposure
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills including:
- An ability to act as project representative.
- An ability to articulate and deliver information both technical and general at community level.
- Mediation and conflict resolution skills.
- Assessment and evaluation capabilities.
- An ability to source and filter information for feeding back to the community.
- High level of integrity
- Sensitive to needs of local communities
- Ability to plan and work in a systematic manner
- Team work and ability to work independently
- Willing to work at remote site in hot climatic conditions
- Good communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
Additional Information
- Fluent in English, Amharic and Afari written and spoken.
- Good command of necessary IT tools such as Excel / Power Point
- Willing to work in remote site in very hot climate
