Refugees United (REFUNITE) is looking for a skilled Data Communications Lead who can help us track global campaigns and operations and share insights with team members and stakeholders. Data is the foundation upon which our rapidly growing organization operates. The communications team is seeking a technically minded candidate who can aggregate, clean, crunch, analyze and transform data with the goal of creating a more data-driven organization. You will work cross-functionally with various teams.

REFUNITE is a nonprofit organization focused on connecting disconnected people to life saving services. We're into tech, and we're into mobile. We want to revolutionize and digitize the humanitarian sector through cutting-edge technology. We've already assisted 400,000 refugees in their search for missing family, and we continue to launch new prototypes across Africa, the Middle East and Africa.
We work with a wide range of technology, mobile companies and humanitarian organizations, such as Education Above All, Ericsson, Safaricom, Vodacom DRC, Telesom, Hormuud, Asiacell, Avea and Smart Communications. You are enthusiastic about sharing technical data. Excellent communication skills are a must.
Tasks
- Create a plan and strategy for data reporting and communications in REFUNITE
- Extract and aggregate data from REFUNITE's databases and real-time dashboard
- Analyze data from our global SMS campaigns, platform and mobile projects
- Prepare data reports and presentations for existing and new partners
- Plan and facilitate meetings, making presentations to other teams
- Derive value from data and translate data insights into tangible action points
- Work with various teams to determine how data might assist in addressing needs
- Assist the tech team in the further development of REFUNITE's dashboard
- Share data with the goal of improving REFUNITE's performance
- Think critically about REFUNITE's data and process complex data sets and workflows into actionable strategies
- Interact with data stemming from from REFUNITE's call center and research teams
- Liaise between REFUNITE's communication and tech team
- Crunch data and evaluate campaign effectiveness
- Update and develop REFUNITE's dashboards as needed
- Analyze segments through online focus groups, surveys and insights from the field
- Help to develop a culture of data sharing
- Ad hoc tasks and assistance
Our ideal candidate
- BA or MA in computer science, business administration, engineering, mathematics or statistics
- Experience with PHP and Python (Django, Flask frameworks)
- Minimum of five years of professional experience.
- Expert knowledge of Excel and knowledge of MySQL, MongoDB, WordPress and CMS
- A portfolio of data projects
- An entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to take on ad hoc tasks
- The ability to work in an extremely fast-paced and multi-tasking environment
Practical information
- Location: Nairobi, Kenya
- Report: You will be reporting to REFUNITE's Director of Global Communications and Strategy, while collaborating with various teams
- Office: You will be working from our hub in Nairobi
- Working hours: Monday to Friday (40 hours)
- Duration: One year ideal start date: 15 February 2015
