Background:I Choose Life – Africa (ICL) is one of the leading Non-Governmental Organizations that has contributed greatly to Sexual Reproductive Health efforts among the youth in Kenya today. The organization works closely with the government, universities, communities and has programs in over 210 institutions (tertiary institutions and high schools) across 23 Counties in Kenya and reaches over 1 million youth annually with behavior change communication messages.
Vision & Mission: ICL's vision is to see a ‘Healthy Africa, Empowered People!’ The organization seeks to support to the implementation of Vision 2030 through the cascading it to the Counties. ICL's mission is to create a movement of individuals that enhance the quality of life for communities through Health initiatives, Economic empowerment, Education (E) and improved Leadership and governance (HEEL).
Job purpose: To contribute towards a sustained change in sexual behavior of Key Population and young people particularly young women in secondary schools, tertiary institutions and at the community level through structural, biomedical and behavioral interventions. In addition, support counties in the actualization of their county strategic plans aligned to Vision 2030
Key responsibility
1.Project Planning and design
  • a. Participate in reviewing the goals and objectives as set out in the funded proposal
  • b. Participate in project planning process including creating Project, Resource, Financial, Quality, Risk and Reporting plans
  • Ensure effective utilization of project resources including budget control and value for money
  • Develop quality plans to ensure the project meets the intended objectives
2.Project implementation and training
  • Carry out trainings of the different target groups; Peer Education Trainings
  • Assist the coordination all project activities including preparation of work plans
  • Plan and conduct regular outreach and other thematic activities to reach communities with Specific SRH messages.
  • Utilize online social networks, bulk text messages and the ICL website to communicate SRH messages.
  • Plan and facilitate implementation of HIV Counseling and Testing activities.
  • Supervise EBI facilitators and HTC counselors’ as they carry out peer education activities and Evidence based interventions (EBI).In addition to this supervise volunteers for the project as they carry out outreach activities.
  • Create partnerships within the project sites for the attainment of project goals.
  • Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately
  • Ensure s partners/donors’ expectations are met and exceeded in terms of quality of product and service delivery
  • Guiding the project team on proper and timely implementation of activities
  • Ensure an open line of communication with the project staff to enable quick identification of potential challenges to the project and possible solutions.
3.Communication
  • Design, adoption and distribution of IEC Materials
  • Participate in increasing organization visibility through design of communication materials
  • Setting up information desk , Database collection during activities
  • Establish a data archiving system for the project
4. Resource Mobilization
  • Take part in resource mobilization through participation in proposal development with other program staff i.e. finance
  • Design, implement and evaluate projects with an aspect of resource mobilization.
  • Lead the team in development of proposals and concepts for funding opportunities.
5. Project Monitoring& Evaluation
  • Participate in reviewing the goals and objectives as set out in the scope of work
  • Compile reports (narrative and data) and submit them to the M & E Manager as per the set deadlines and conduct evaluations of the project as a whole.
  • In accordance with donor requirements, create or maintain procedures for capturing and publishing monthly, quarterly and annual project technical and financial reports
  • Planning of project activities by scheduling tasks, deadlines and milestones for all stakeholders and resources and creating work plans.
6. Staff assessment and appraisal
a) Carry out staff appraisal at project level with support from HR to ensure staff performance is improved.
b) Complete any other tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
Knowledge and skills
a. Be an excellent facilitator and have the ability to create partnerships within the project area.
b. Experience in implementing USG funded projects is highly desirable.
c. Excellent leader with good supervisory skills
d. Knowledge on programming highly desirable
e. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, a keen eye for details, good presentation and interpersonal skills and excellent report writing skills.
f. People management skills as well as mentorship experience and capability.
Education
a) A Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences
b) Diploma in project management will be an added advantage
c) A diploma or degree in an M&E course will be an added advantage.
Experience and Abilities
a) A minimum of 3 years training experience in a youth setting on aspects of HIV/AIDS prevention or behavior change in a project setting.
b) Ability to work with a team, foster a team approach and incorporate capacity building activities into the program
c) Ability to analyze and utilize program development gaps for designing Programs.
