About the Role
ZanaAfrica Group is building a powerful movement for girls and women in Kenya by delivering awesome feminine hygiene products coupled with the critical, relevant, and engaging information girls and women need and seek to make informed decisions. We’re looking for an experienced, thoughtful, and dynamic Production Director who will oversee the development of trans-media health education platforms, with a focus on producing the first teen magazine in Kenya targeting girls between the ages of 10-14. Nia Teen Magazine and its corresponding SMS Platform will deliver accurate, referable, and responsive health information that girls seek and need through engaging content that celebrates real girls’ stories and highlights girl-created content. The magazine and SMS platform are designed for knowledge retention, behavior change and to encourage social capital for girls in our target audience. Both will be tested as part of a ground breaking randomized control trial starting in 2017 to

The Production Director will be a key player on the magazine team, ensuring that project deliverables are being met and working closely with a highly talented Creative Team who develop and generate high quality content. This is a highly cross-functional role for someone who is analytical, energetic, creative and unafraid to roll up his/her sleeves, with a demonstrated passion for girls’ and women’s rights and well-being.
Responsibilities
Production Cycle Management for Nia Teen Magazine
  • Lead and oversee Nia Teen Magazine production cycles to ensure deadlines
    are met for termly distribution of the magazine in line with grant funding
    deliverables
  • Ensure, alongside the Creative Director, all deliverables are met for
    completion of the magazine, including content mapping and creation,
    illustration and aspect creation, copy-editing, design and visual layout
  • Coordinate content plan with the Editor while getting buy-in and approvals
    from relevant team members
  • Manage and coordinate the review and sign off process across the Brand
    and Content components
  • Lead procurement along with Creative Director and Chief Finance Officer of
    high-quality and Value for money printing partners
  • Forecast hiring needs and onboard and support new positions for team when
    needed
    Oversee SMS Product Development
  • Oversee and strategize the SMS platform development with the Connectivity
    Manager and Girl-Content Team to ensure the development of a girl-facing
    SMS platform that works harmoniously and responsively to magazine content
  • Co-manage Connectivity Manager in his/her day-to-day development of the
    SMS platform

  • Ideate, model, and test distribution strategies for magazine and SMS

    Qualifications + Requirements
    • Bachelors in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Writing, or related
    field, or relevant work experience
    • 6-7 years of experience in creative industry and/or media-based
    education; experience in print production/publishing is highly preferred
    • 3-4 years of project management and/or production traffic management
    experience; previous experience working with creative teams is a plus
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and
    Kiswahili, including the ability to articulate creative concepts to team
    • Strong planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks
    simultaneously
    • Previous experience in partnership development is a plus

Responsibilities
Develop and implement the brands and creative elements that bring the Nia Movement to life
· Create strategic plans, guidelines and value propositions for ZanaAfrica Group, Nia Movement and related brands with the Branding & Marketing Officer and other team members.
· Build ZanaAfrica’s existing and future product brands and oversee initiatives including package design, marketing campaigns, events, health education platforms (digital and analogue) as well as multimedia digital channels.
· Develop and present concepts for products, campaigns and other related initiatives
· Test, edit and iterate all products through consumer insights and other monitoring and evaluation activities with the Chief Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
· Establish timelines and work plans for the phased development of products, campaigns and initiatives
· Coordinate and manage the creative and product teams to ensure delivery of high-quality work in line with brand guidelines
· Work closely with the creative team to identify, determine and engage best practice and partners in order to drive and deliver Nia branded products within the set guidelines and timelines
· Build partnerships across sectors to engage in creative mechanisms to share the Nia Movement as widely as possible
· Track trends and insights locally and globally
Ensure connectivity to our customers and movement-makers through social media
· Lead the development of a digital media plan with the Connectivity Specialist for all social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter); oversee execution of social media plan
· Work with Graphic Designer to ensure all visual assets are in compliance with Nia Brand Guidelines
Manage visual storytelling activities and ensure they are in accordance with brand and movement principles
· Work closely with the Production Director ensure each issue of Nia Teen Magazine—our health and lifestyle magazine for young adolescent girls—is harmonized for content and visual aspects
· Coordinate with Production Director to ensure completion of deliverables for Supervising Illustrator and Graphic Designer to create artwork and graphic elements for the Nia Teen Magazine
· Oversee and ensure the delivery of high standard/quality Nia products by 3rd party suppliers (production and print houses).
· Direct Graphic Designer in building layout, infographics and any other visual elements
· Oversee Supervising Illustrator to ensure completion and clarity of the comic
· Provide art direction with Supervising Illustrator and Production Director to any photo shoots to generate needed photo assets
Qualifications + Requirements
· BA in Communications, Marketing, Design, Advertising or related field
· 6+ years of experience in creative industry and/or consumer products, experience working with an FMCG a plus
· 2-3 years of leadership in creative project management from conceptualization to execution; previous experience in publishing is a significant plus
· Strong creative conceptual skills with experience to implement robust brand building strategies across analogue and digital platforms
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Kiswahili, including the ability to articulate creative concepts to team and stakeholders
· Expert Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; Strong foundation in design and visual sensibility

The Role
Komaza’s Business Operations department is serving as an internal consulting function for short-term and/or high-technical work and projects. This department is doing everything from writing technical handbooks and redesigning department’s organizational structures and strategy. BizOps is working across the entire organization to coordinate cross-functional efforts, as well as dig in deep to a specific department’s operations, to serve the strategic and operational needs of the fast-growing company.
The Business Operations Fellow must always be answering the question, “How can I improve this system?”, “How can I fix this process?”, “What do we need to make this work?”. The fellow will always be on his/her toes, quick to find creative and cost effective solutions to a specific challenges.

Executive Officer to Global Assurance (GA) Team

ROLE PURPOSE:
Provide a professional administration support service to the Global Assurance team with specific focussed support to the Director of Global Assurance (DGA).
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Director of Global Assurance.
Staff reporting to this post: None
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
• Manage all travel booking arrangements for the DGA and their respective teams, including other related requirements such as visas, hotel accommodation and foreign currency.
• Provide an effective diary management service to the DGA. Assist the DGA to effectively set up and run meetings
• Take minutes of all GA meetings (and additional meetings as required by the DGA); ensure timely circulation and completion of action points.
• Maintain an up to date leave forecast / record for the GA team members
• Maintain a workflow tracking document / tool on the different GA projects / initiatives etc.
• Plan for and coordinate GA team away weeks including logistical planning, venue sourcing and administrative support prior to and during the away week
• Process and monitor the payment of all invoices relating to GA activities;
• Undertake an initial review of GA’s monthly expenditure and investigate the root cause of any unexpected transactions or variances.
• Support the DGA by providing a typing, copying and printing etc service.
• Prepare expense claims for the DGA.
• Be trained in and manage the Global Assurance audit recommendations software (MKinsights), working closely with the system administrator. Once fully trained, run regular reports on recommendation implementation, as directed by the DGA; and liaise with Country and Regional Offices with regards to implementation deadlines.
• Maintain filing and correspondence as necessary
• Develop strong, positive relationships with all relevant stakeholders on behalf of Global Assurance.

Organizational Context
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC or “the Federation”) is the World’s largest volunteer-based humanitarian network. The Federation is a membership organization established by and comprised of its member National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Along with National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Federation is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The overall aim of the IFRC is” to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” It works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises. The Federation is served by a Secretariat based in Geneva, with regional and country offices throughout the world. The Secretariat is led by the IFRC Secretary General and provides the central capacity of the International Federation to serve, connect, and represent National Societies. The Africa Regional Office is organized in Country Cluster Technical Support Teams (CCTST) covering the National Societies in Eastern Africa and Indian Ocean Islands, Southern Africa, West Coast, Sahel and Central Africa as well as Country Offices in Sudan, Republic of South Sudan, Somalia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Central Africa. The Eastern Africa and Indian Ocean Islands (EAIOI) Country Cluster office will support 12 (Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Djibouti, Eritrea, Rwanda, Burundi, Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius and Seychelles ) countries in the EAIOI region from Nairobi, Kenya.
EAIOI region is characterized by the complexity of slow and fast onset emergencies, with some of the worst humanitarian statistics in the world, the term complex emergencies was coined within Eastern Africa. In 2010/11 the crisis in the Horn of Africa has been cited as the most severe crisis in the last century. More than 13 million have been quoted as effected, with a mixture of natural and man-made causes.
Job purpose
Reporting to Head of Cluster, EAIOI, the Partnerships and Resource Development Officer is a member of the Africa Region Partnerships and Resource Development team and is responsible to; 1) Coordinate and facilitate partnerships across the Country Cluster and manage relationships with external and internal partners. 2) Strengthen capacities of National Societies in partnerships and resource development and 3) Mobilise resources for IFRC Secretariat’s emergency and operational plans.
The Partnerships and Development Officer works closely with the Cluster Finance Unit, Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting Unit, as well as with Operations and Programme Managers.
Job duties and responsibilities
1. Partnerships and Relations Management
  • Establish and strengthen strategic partnerships across different income streams, including the following:
  • Partner National Societies – with a Federation-wide approach, including multilateral and bilateral partners, and including those within the region;
  • Government partnerships - in cooperation with respective partner National Societies;
  • European Union - including DG ECHO, DG Devco and other EU institutions;
  • Multilateral and financial institutions partnerships - including African Development Bank, World Bank, UN agencies etc.; and
  • Private sector partnerships - including global corporate partnerships and partnerships with foundations in the region.
  • Establish and maintain strong relations with key donors which includes analysing key trends in individual donor policies and priorities and support the match between IFRC EAIOI priorities and donor priorities;
Ensure the management of all information/data related to partnerships/funding in EAIOI CCTST is kept fully up to date in the IFRC’s CRM system
· Serve as a key advisor, representative and interlocutor with Governments, donor organizations and other key stakeholders.in harnessing and strengthening strategic partnerships and resource development representing the interests of EAIOI CCTST.
  • Determine the partnerships landscape to ensure optimal win-win partnerships for IFRC EAIOI CCTST
  • Identify and mobilize key strategic partnerships to enhance impact and influence IFRC EAIOI CCTST strategic priorities;
2. Participates and contributes to the implementation of the Africa Region Partnership and Resource Development plan on achievement of the following results:
· Work with the Africa Region PRD team to proactively identify, research and contribute in developing new strategies and partnerships frameworks for targeted income streams.
· Follow up on the EAIOI CCTST pipeline and partnership management plan
· Contribute towards the development and implementation of the EAIOI CCTST PRD plans linking with the Regional and Global plans.
· Assess CCTST opportunities for resource mobilization and identification of emerging sources of funding and mapping of current and potential donors and partners.

  1. Strengthening EAIOI CCTST National Societies’ capacities in partnerships and resource development:
Coordinate/facilitate/support the provision of expertise and tools to National Societies in the region, to enable them to develop fundraising strategies, and to develop their capacities in creating viable partnerships and enhanced domestic resource development work, so that each National Society is able to diversify and maximize its funding opportunities, through different income streams, including government and private funding.
Facilitate knowledge sharing of resource development expertise amongst National Societies in the EAIOI CCTST and link to the regional fundraising network (Africa Fundraisers Network)
4. Resource mobilization for IFRC’s Emergency Appeals and Operational Plans in EAIOI CCTSToffice:
· Aim to increase coverage rates for IFRC’s emergency appeals and operational plans in EAIOI CCTST cluster office to reach 100 % coverage, maintaining an overview of the funding situation of all emergency appeals and operational plans, continuously identifying gaps in funding and funding priorities/opportunities.
· Emergency appeals: take the lead in coordination of resource mobilization including partner/donor outreach, ensuring regular sharing of information with partners, and ensuring that funding information is kept up to date on CRM.
· Operational plans: develop funding plans and ensure timely follow up with partners on all new funding opportunities, and that all funding information is kept up to date on CRM.
· Pledge management: ensure efficient processing of all pledges for emergency appeals and operational plans, according to established guidelines/procedures.
· Grants management: Working with the Senior Grants management Officer ensure all grants received through the IFRC secretariat are managed well, that all funding proposals are of good quality, and that guidelines/procedures are followed.
· Donor reporting: working with PMER to ensure that all donor reports are prepared to quality standards, compliance with agreed donor conditions/requirements, and all reporting deadlines are met
  1. Management and Coordination:
· Keep the Regional PRD Coordinator and Head of EAIOI CCTST updated on major developments in his/her scope of responsibilities.
· Provide sound management of, and technical guidance/training/support to, staff/delegates in the EAIOI CCTST ensuring that all partnerships and resource development tasks are completed in a timely manner, and providing quality assurance and accountability.
· Coordinate the collection of information, data, market research, and analysis of donor/partner trends in EAIOI CCTST, including the mapping of current and new sources of funding, ensuring information is kept up to date in CRM.
· Coordinate the dissemination of information/strategies/policies/guidelines/procedures related to partnerships and resource development to IFRC offices and National Societies in EAIOI CCTST.
· Be the focal point at the EAIOI CCTST, working with Communications, for matters related to Red Cross Red Crescent branding, including use of the Movement logo for fundraising in the context of emergencies and partnerships with global corporate partners.

Position Requirements
Education
University Degree in relevant discipline( social sciences, political science, international relations and development studies etc) A post graduate qualification is an added advantage.
Experience
Experience of working for the Red Cross/Red Crescent
4 years’ experience of working for a humanitarian aid organization in advocacy and communication- Advocacy activities directed at decision-makers such as lobbying and/or supporting lobbying of decision-makers 3 years relevant experience in fundraising and managing relations with partners/donors, including in development of fundraising strategies, and with demonstrable success in fundraising against targets with governments, corporates, multilaterals and /or major donors
Experience in facilitating training in fundraising and resource development, as well as in mentoring/coaching
Experience of managing, coaching, and supporting staff
Experience of working with political decision makers, senior civil servants, donors, NGOs and academia in relation to policy/ decision-making processes, advocacy work on international development and/or other global issues
Experience in writing policy positions/briefings and analysis on complex policy issues for political decision makers and/or senior organisational representatives Experience of acting in a senior representational role
Experience in using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM)system - Preferred
Knowledge and Skills
Proven in-depth knowledge of advocacy and policy.
Familiarity with government aid systems and that of multilateral organisations Knowledge of developing domestic fundraising, eg corporate fundraising, individual giving etc
