Role Summary/Purpose 
As the regional manager of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), you will build and lead a team in the development and implementation of EHS programs for corporate facilities across Sub Sahara Africa, SSA. You will coordinate with multiple office sites for the implementation and maintenance of EHS programs necessary to ensure full compliance with corporate standards and regulatory requirements in varied locations, including Angola, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana. 

Essential Responsibilities 
You will work closely with the District Property managers and the Center of Excellence team and will liaise with local business managers and EHS and Security & Crisis Management (SCM) teams across the businesses in the region to achieve your objectives. You will report to the Regional Operations Leader and in dotted line to the Global EHS Programs Leader.

•Manage implementation of EHS programs, training and processes across all (SSA) sites.
•Support EHS due diligence in accordance with real estate initiatives, as applicable
(e.g., lease exits, renewals, etc.).
•Coordinate and conduct compliance and framework audits and reviews necessary to meet company and country compliance requirements and reduce risk liability.
•Drive metrics and compliance with all GE and country-specific EHS programs, processes and requirements across all corporate functions and facilities as well as with all GE Business subtenants.
•Coordinate all EHS projects, planning, scheduling, and budgeting for all regional corporate facilities.
•Represent Corporate Facilities EHS for (SSA) to all corporate business leaders, EHS and Crisis Management leaders, and for Corporate Session I, II, C and E (business planning, performance management and compliance) reviews, as well as provide liaison to CEP (SSA) operations.
•Develop and maintain an EHS communication network for reporting and sharing of best practices across the GE businesses within the (SSA).
•Ensure documentation and reporting of all necessary information and metrics for all EHS programs across all corporate facilities' processes and occupants.
•Support and mentor all EHS Coordinators implementing compliance, framework and Global Star efforts.
•Lead digitization of EHS and Safety/Crisis Management programs and processes.
•Work with project teams to ensure that all construction projects are designed and implemented in line with corporate programs and safety requirements.
•Direct remedial activities and projects at onsite facilities, as applicable. 

Qualifications/Requirements 
•University Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry or related science/discipline (OR in lieu of degree, combination of education and
with relevant professional/leadership experience in
Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) management or related function
•Demonstrable expertise and experience in EHS management in both office and industrial sites (preferably with multi-site/region responsibilities)
•Experience developing, implementing and enforcing EHS programs and protocols
•Expert knowledge of EHS legislation/regulations in South Africa or Kenya (OHS Act, COID Act, NEMA, ECA, APPA etc)
•Demonstrable experience with ISO/OHSAS 
•Experience with accident investigation process
•Knowledge of safety/crisis management protocols
•Experience with budgeting process
•Fluent in English 
•Strong analytical, leadership, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
•Demonstrated ability to develop and achieve measurable goals
•Ability to organize and focus teams, tasks and requests 

Desired Characteristics 
•Experience with multi-location facilities management, preferably commercial office buildings 
•Green Belt certified**
•Auditing qualification at a recognised institution (e.g., Global Star, ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 etc.).
•Working knowledge of other African EHS regulations.
•Proficiency in other African languages, such as French, Portuguese 
•Knowledge of chemical handling, hazardous waste removal and waste water treatment preferred
•Understanding of GE EHS Tools (internal applicants): GenSuite, Frameworks and/or CEP Measurements Reporting**
•Ability to organize and focus teams, tasks and requests and manage sites/teams remotely. Project management skills would be advantageous.
•Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
•Excellent interpersonal, influencing, communication and presentation skills with ability to both communicate and train staff/tenants and also communicate at senior level. Culturally aware.
•Independent thinker, capable of identifying emerging issues and recommending appropriate mitigation.
•Ability to self-manage/motivate and independently drive performance in a challenging environment.
