Position Summary
Futures Group is seeking a GIS Analyst Consultant to provide content knowledge, technical assistance, consultation, and analytic support for the development and execution of spatial analyses. A proficient knowledge of computer software programs used in cartography is integral to job function. An ability to perform geospatial modeling, analysis and data manipulation is necessary. The qualified candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining geographic, political, and health related databases. The Data Analyst Consultant must design and update geographic information systems (GIS) databases using various mathematics techniques, such as coordinate geometry, conversion of vectors, and real analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Spatial Epidemiologists and broader team to collate, clean and analyze data from disparate data sources
- Construct maps for multiple countries of varying levels of sophistication at national and sub-national levels
- Apply GIS techniques to identify spatial patterns
- Utilize data visualization techniques to present publication-quality maps to policy makers, decision makers, and program planners at various levels of government
- Develop publication-quality visuals for presentations, publications, and briefs
- Develop GIS training curricula for various levels of sophistication and complexity
- Contribute to analytic papers and policy briefs for specific assignments
- Support other field consultants and research staff through e-mail and phone calls, while being clear and concise and providing excellent service.
- Maintain project-wide communication channels and interface with project staff according to the management team’s needs
Qualifications
Mid-level position. MPH or MA in GIS, spatial analysis, or allied field.
The following are desirable:· Experience with ArcGIS is a must, along with knowledge of NGA raster and vector data types
- At least two years of experience in international development with specialized knowledge in information management, database design, and IT systems;
- At least two years of experience with GIS data entry, manipulation, and presentation, as well as a familiarity with web-based interfaces in addition to more traditional PC network based systems
· Familiarity with USAID-supported projects desirable
· Aims to beat expectations – excellent skills in managing assigned workload
· Fluency in other languages highly desirable
· Experience working in developing countries desired
