Grants Officer Job in Nairobi, Kenya

  • Job Vacancy: Grants OfficerThe Africa Capacity Alliance (ACA) is a membership organization currently consisting of 37 Member Institutions (MIs) across 12 African countries.
    ACA is currently implementing a USAID supported program entitled Capacity Development Services.
    The project works with 10 Kenya based NGOs and is aimed at strengthening the institutional systems of Regional and Local NGOs (RLNGOs) in East Africa to become efficient, effective, and sustainable organizations.
    ACA is recruiting a Grants Officer who will work on this project.
    The Grants Officer will primarily be responsible for administering and managing grants to RLNGOs.
    S/he will manage the mentored grants approval process, ensure compliance of sub-grants and provide training to grantees and programme staff on grants management issues.
    The successful candidate will participate in development of grant management systems and establish streamlined policies and procedures related to sub-grant proposal development, teaming agreements and approvals.
    S/he will also be expected to conduct project site visits to assess progress and monitor compliance with sub-award conditions.
    The Grants Officer will work in collaboration with the Business Development Team in responding to calls for funding proposals/applications and in establishing and strengthening relationships with key partners aimed at growing the wider ACA funding portfolio.
    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
    The minimum required academic and professional skills for the job holder to perform successfully in their job are:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Economics or equivalent
  • At least 5 years experience in NGO sub-grant project management
  • Knowledge of U.S. government grant making rules and regulations
  • Basic understanding of grants management process involving multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in developing project proposals relevant to development sector donors
  • Project management/plan development skills
  • Highly proficient in MS Office, spreadsheets and database skills
  • Proficient in MS-Project
  • Sophistication and poise, with the intellectual depth and maturity to work with executives, staff, government officials and other leaders
  • Detail orientation, with an ability to operate in a highly organized fashion
  • Charisma, able to articulate ACA’s mission and programs to inspire across multiple formats (e.g., in-person meetings, phone and video conference)
  • Flexibility and creativity, exhibiting determination while maintaining respect for others’ concerns
  • Emotional maturity and a good sense of humor
  • Ability to work independently and remotely, sometimes on weekends, early in the morning or late in the evening to beat tight deadlines when necessary.Location: Nairobi, Kenya
