The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), Africa Regional Office is looking to for a qualified person to fill the position of Advocacy Officer.
The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is the leading global NGO in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). It is currently working in more than 170 countries in the world. The Africa Regional Office (IPPFARO), based in Nairobi, is one of IPPF’s six regional offices.
The post holder will provide support at national, regional and global levels to develop, communicate, advocate on a set of clear messages / recommendations other related development frameworks.
This post holder will provide leadership and support strategic planning to assure achievement of the overall programme results, supporting IPPF Member Associations (MAs) and other Civil Society Organisations to effectively utilise existing and new research to improve advocacy efforts that will improve the design and implementation of FP and RH services and their appropriate integration into maternal and child health and HIV and AIDS programs.
The post holder will need to have sound technical knowledge /understanding of sexual and Reproductive Health including family planning; strong project development, implementation, evaluation and excellent advocacy skills.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience of advocacy, campaigning and lobbying work with governments, donor institutions and inter-governmental bodies

Diplomatic and influencing skills in support of effective collaboration and cooperation with multiple stakeholders
Familiar and experience working with civil society networks and coalitions
Ability to think strategically, plan, prioritise and implement multiple work tasks under tight timelines
Ability to develop and implement advocacy strategies
To conduct advocacy efforts and measure changes that IPPF MAs and national partners have on policy and advocacy issues at the country level
To work closely with other project staff to conceptualize, design and implement in-country RH/FP capacity building plans and to undertake research projects
To ensure the development and implementation of annual workplans and budgets, ensuring and project priorities are addressed and contract/budget compliance is achieved
To develop and implement processes and materials for sharing lessons learned with the global programme team, the Federation about tools, approaches and models
To write academic articles, to publish a body of evidence, and to present at key conferences on the project’s findings
To work collaboratively with project partners on advocacy initiatives, building and developing networks and partnerships to promote a consistent project message and approach
Ability to prepare donor narrative reports and updates on project activities on a quarterly basis.
With at least 3 years work experience doing similar or related work in an international NGO or similar organization; you must have degree in social sciences or in development studies or equivalent standard of education or experience. The candidate should have project planning and problem solving skills and proven track record of team building skills. You must have proven analytical, presentation and written communication skills.
Proficiency in English and in French with a working knowledge of the other language is essential. Knowledge of Portuguese is an added advantage.
The post will require significant travel, up to 30%.
