About ICE
The Institute for Culture and Ecology (ICE) is a national non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Kenya in 2006 which promotes and applies the inherent and natural role of culture in environmental conservation and resource management in Kenya. ICE’s mission is to promote environmental conservation and natural resource management through buttressing traditional knowledge in community-based environmental and resource management initiatives and facilitating cultural-based learning that leads to social, economic and ecological wellbeing of its target (mostly rural) communities. ICE accompanies communities as they rediscover the value of local knowledge and naturally endowed resources/potentials in the processes of livelihoods improvement and environmental conservation. This enables communities to drive their own development agenda and hence detach themselves from the poverty cycle. Position Description
o ICE seeking applications from qualified persons for the position of M&E specialist to be based in ICE office in Thika with about 20% travel to target project areas within Central and Eastern Kenya Reporting to the Director, the M&E Officer will be charged with implementation of the M&E Plan and support in programmes implementation.
Specific responsibilities Developing a comprehensive M&E plan • implementation of the M&E plan • providing technical support and working alongside the programme/project officers in monitoring and evaluating project objectives, success indicators and targets • Establishment and maintenance of project monitoring information system • Designing and introduction of monitoring tools in programme implementation • Identifying and formulating M&E findings, lessons learnt and recommendations to be integrated into project planning, management decision-making and dissemination to various stakeholders. • Collection, analysis and reporting of project data • Training of programme personnel in basic M&E, data collection, analysis and management/use of data • Supporting other staff in organizing of data for presentation in meetings/conferences. • Present M&E findings to internal and external partners and stakeholders. • Support the Director and Officer in charge of Communications and Documentation for timely reporting to the donors • work closely with the Director and programme officers to ensure result-based management of ICE projects and adherence to the ICE Strategic Plan
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications; o A university degree in Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation or related fields o At least 1year experience in monitoring and evaluating environmental projects and food security related projects. o Experience in monitoring donor-funded programs will be an added advantage. o Computer proficiency in word processing, databases, spreadsheets, including skills in statistical analysis application o Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines o Able to work with minimal supervision. o Good oral and communication skills and good command of English and Kiswahili languages. Applicants: with postgraduate qualifications; who have worked in M&E with a NGO; and those with basic understanding of languages spoken in lower Eastern have an added advantage
