ICT TECHNICIAN

Job Summary
To effect timely technical user/desktop/infrastructure/network/communication support throughout Kenyatta University and affiliate campuses. This will include the installation and support of both hardware and software for all manner of desktop devices, including PCs, smart phones, printers, laptops and tablets.
This support will take the form of both on-site and remote fixes (including telephone support).

Qualifications:
Essential:

• Must have at least a Diploma in ICT related field from a recognized institution
• Must have an good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows & Office Platforms
• Office -  2003, 2007, 2010
• Hands on experience on PC and Printer Hardware – Installation, troubleshooting, hardware replacements

Desirable:

• Degree in ICT related field or equivalent from a recognized institution
• At least two (2) years in a busy ICT environment
• Those with ICT Diploma and three (3) years experience in networking and PC support will also be considered

Experience & Abilities:
Essential:

• Must have extensive experience of supporting desktop hardware and software if no formal qualifications are held
• Experience of installing and configuring PCs, printers and other desktop devices (Laptops, Tablets, PDAs) for use in a network and standalone environment
• Previous experience working with Google Apps and ICT Ticketing Systems
• Experience of configuring network client software including Microsoft ODBC connections
• Experience in supporting users with little or no knowledge of the use of PCs & working experience in ICT Customer Service

Desirable:

• Experience of Microsoft servers & workstations
• Experience of switch or router configuration
• Experience of network administration in a Microsoft environment
• Ability to use the Network monitoring and management tools
• Ability to troubleshoot data communication problems
• Ability to configure network communication equipment
• Basic command line operating systems e.g. UNIX/DOS
• Experience of IT Systems specification

TERMS OF SERVICE:
The terms for the above positions include a generous medical scheme, house allowance and commuting allowance. Successful candidates will be offered two (2) year renewable performance-based contract and gratuity will be paid at the end of the contract.
