Position**: Gender Based Violence Officer – Child Protection (GBV Officer)**
The Child Protection GBV officer shall be the focal point for all children SGBV case management activities in Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei settlement. The officer will be responsible for contributing to the timely and quality implementation of activities, deliver continuous technical coaching, perform monitoring and evaluation of the quality of GBV related work in child protection sector, and capacity building of staff who s/he will be working with in GBV prevention and response. The GBV officer will serve as the focal point for children GBV cases and will closely work with Child Protection Officer & Deputy Child Protection Officers case management while coordinating all GBV activities.
The GBV Officer will report directly to the Senior Child Protection Officer.
Duties and responsibilities
- Oversee case management (including follow up on referrals and action plans) and support services provided to GBV survivors.
- Initiate planning for longer-term GBV prevention and response activities, including referral pathway and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain, monitor and measure GBV project implementation and contribute to effective information management on GBV survivors
- Closely work with case management officer and ensure that staff implement and respect best-practice and international standards in GBV prevention and response;
- Participate in the design of project activities, monitoring systems and capacity building activities for partners, community member and children.
· Ensure systematic means by which children with GBV protection concerns can be identified (including unaccompanied and separated children), assessed and have their details documented both at the Nadapal border post, within Kakuma camp and Kalobeyei settlement.
· Develop and maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including GOK, LWF Donors, partner agencies, community structures and service providers.
· Assist with general GBV program operations and field-based activities.
· Follow up children cases referred for safe shelter in collaboration with related stakeholders.
· Submit quality reports as scheduled including but not limited to weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
· Develop evidence-based proposals and budgets that reflect urgent and emerging needs among children in Kakuma and Kalobeyei.
- Actively protect children in every aspect of work and personal life, by preventing harm and reporting child abuse.
Minimum Qualification & Competencies
· Degree in Social work/Social sciences or equivalent from a credible institution
· Minimum 3 years work experience in child protection or social work with a demonstrated focus on GBV program design and implementation
· Knowledge of community based child protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches (PRA/PLA) and child participation methodologies.
· Basic familiarity with MS application packages (Word, Excel and database software) and willingness to develop further.
- Good communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
· Demonstrated experience and knowledge in organising play and training activities for children and youth.
· Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
· Positive attitude towards community work with emphasis on the ability to learn from communities and support innovative approaches to problem solving.
· Commitment to LWF Child Protection Policy.
- Possession of a Certificate of Good Conduct.
