The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) is an international, non-profit organization that supports the building of democratic societies and the strengthening of transitional democracies. Founded in 1987 as a nonpartisan, non-profit organization, IFES has developed and implemented comprehensive, collaborative democracy solutions in more than 120 countries.
About the project
IFES is currently implementing a capacity-building program in support of Kenya’s electoral process in the areas of Voter Education, conflict mitigation and sustainability of Election Technology, among others.
Position summary
IFES Kenya seeks to recruit four regional coordinators to be based in Nairobi, Mombasa, Isiolo and Lamu. Their overall role will be to oversee the implementation of the election violence prevention and response program in their respective county(ies). The regional coordinators will also be responsible for managing and strengthening programmatic relationships and linkages in their respective counties with our implementing partners, governmental institutions and civil society for the overall success of the project. The regional coordinators’ responsibilities will be zoned as follows;
1 Senior Regional Coordinator based in Nairobi - in charge of Nairobi County;
1 Senior Regional Coordinator based in Mombasa - in charge of Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi Counties;
1 Regional Coordinator based in Lamu - in charge of Lamu, Tana River and Garissa Counties;
1 Regional Coordinator based in Isiolo - in charge of Isiolo, Marsabit and Laikipia Counties;
Under the supervision of the Program’s Conflict Prevention Specialist, the principal duties and responsibilities of the coordinators shall include, but not limited to the following: -
Key Responsibilities
· Coordinate and share information with the Conflict Prevention Specialist, program team and partners to ensure overall program targets and donor obligations are being achieved;
· Visit project sites regularly, including partner sites to provide appropriate technical assistance, monitor and oversee activities;
· Act as the main liaison with County Governments and IEBC officials and institutions, stakeholders and community members relevant to the project;
· Participate in peace, election and conflict related coordination meetings and professionally represent IFES in these forums;
· Support the development of partnerships with local and international NGOs, CBOs and other agencies involved in election conflict management initiatives;
· Build the capacity of select implementing partners to improve their technical, organizational and management capacity;
· Regularly meet and communicate with the Conflict Prevention Specialist to discuss program achievements, especially when they deviate from the original plan;
· Work with the Conflict Prevention Specialist to organize and facilitate field visits for donors and IFES staff;
· In collaboration with the Conflict Prevention Specialist, monitor security developments and report to IFES senior management as per the IFES security procedures and protocols;
· Jointly prepare donor reports with the Conflict Prevention Specialist and other staff to capture program impact;
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Academic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. A Post graduate degree will be an added advantage
Relevant Experience
At least 5 years’ relevant experience working with civil society organizations involved in good governance, peace building and conflict management or any other relevant field. Experience in the County (ies) of choice is highly preferred.

Terms and Conditions
Contract: 6 months contingent on funding and performance.
