SNV is an international development organisation established in the Netherlands in 1965. For nearly 50 years, SNV has been at the forefront of development, helping to build local capacity and empower local families and communities to break the cycle of poverty. We are present on the ground in 38 developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and operate in Agriculture & Food Security, Renewable Energy, and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene. Our more than 1,000 advisors in the field come from a variety of cultural and technical backgrounds, and over 80 per cent are nationals of the countries where we work.
Program Overview
Starting in early 2014, SNV will enter into a RBF contract with DFID to scale-up our Sustainable Sanitation and Hygiene for All (SSH4A) approach across a series of countries in an effort to improve access to sanitation for millions of people around the world. The SSH4A approach will be implemented in nine countries in Africa and Asia (Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nepal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia). The SSH4A Approach combines work on demand creation −mostly through Community Lead Total Sanitation (CLTS)− sanitation supply chains, hygiene behavioural change communication (BCC) and governance. The key results of this program will be to increase the number of ODF communities, expand access to sanitation and hygiene
promotion activities, expand access to and improve sanitation facilities, and to increase the numbers of individuals practicing good sanitation hygiene. Program success will rely on measurable impact at the country level.
