GEP Coordinator

Position Description:
Heshima Kenya is a nonprofit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya dedicated to identifying, protecting refugee children and empowering unaccompanied and separated refugee children, especially adolescent girls, through our specialized shelter, education and advocacy programs. The GEP Program Manager will carry out program goals and objectives associated with the Girl’s Empowerment Project and will be responsible for the overall management, planning, assessing and implementing of the program. This post also includes regular teaching time within GEP. The GEP Manager is part of Heshima Management team and will be expected to contribute toward deliver of the vision and mission. As with all Heshima Kenya posts, the GEP Program Manager is expected to be a role model and leader, behaving and interacting respectfully and with dignity with participants and colleagues alike. This position reports directly to the Senior Program Manager
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and participate in design of Girls Empowerment Program and Annual Operational plan and aligned budget
  • Ensure the set annual program goals and objective are delivered on time and in a quality manner
  • Provide technical support and supervision to girls empowerment program staff/tutors in designing the curriculum
  • Develop M&E tools, track, maintain records and data for GEP program
  • Implement and monitor the teachers and overall activities of the GEP adult education curriculum, vocational training and life skills
  • Approve basic education and life skills work plans on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis at the same time providing individualized mentorship and coaching to the team to maximize on their productivity
  • Providing individualized support to participants including guidance and counseling, collect necessary materials to maintain a high level of learning environment for all participants;
  • Oversee and implement Life Skills curriculum; set peer training curriculum and certify participants
  • Identify and develop working relationships with external adult education programs and examination centers for HK participants who may pursue Kenya Primary Certification & Kenya Secondary Examination certification.
  • Liaise with the department of adult education and coordinate administration of proficiency tests
  • Coordinate and monitor participants’ progress and attendance in the programs
  • Identify, develop and manage line partnerships with government, civil society and private sector
  • Foster the development and implementation of special projects (including art and media based projects), plan events, and schedule educational and recreational field trips
  • Ensure completion of enrollment and individual assessments for each participant;
  • Maintain standardized and unit testing and evaluation schedule in classroom providing updated scores and evaluations
  • Ensure weekly and monthly reports on each participant enrolled addressing work progress and evaluations of participant’s participation;
  • Oversee recording and tracking of each participant’s attendance to the program.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, action plans, and donor reports
  • Strive to develop individual relationships with each participant and ensure that participants have access to one on one communication when needed;
  • Effectively and respectfully handle issues of discipline and behavior as stated in the SOP
  • Planning and conducting timely behavioral Assessments;
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to each participant served in any and all Heshima Kenya’s programs;
  • Preparing impact stories and other forms of communication, including photographs and video, to support donor reports and web site interaction
Qualifications and Experience
  • First degree in Education and a Master degree in any of social sciences disciplines.
  • Diploma /certificate in social work/counseling
  • Diploma/certificate in adult education will be an added advantage
  • Over six years of practical experience in learning set up or in the NGO sector,
  • Experience working with refugees will be an added advantage
  • Extensive experience in implementing educational and life skills programs to diverse populations
  • Skilled at carrying out program needs assessments, program development and implementation
  • Excellent oral and written communication and reporting skill
  • Skills in staff supervision, mentorship and couching
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; can work independently and as part of a teams
  • Must be highly organized, creative, detail oriented and work effectively under pressure with competing priorities
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must maintain respectful and healthy working relationships with colleagues and people of concern
  • Must be a Kenyan citizen, of good moral, integrity and with clean criminal record
