Position: Project Coordinator for NORAD Tax and Education Project
Location: Johannesburg, Nairobi, Bangkok or any other AA office
Duration: 2.5 year Fixed Term Contract
International Grade D: Local salary scales and terms and conditions will apply where applicable
Purpose of the Role: The Project Coordinator will lead and manage the project’s day to day planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation to achieve the defined project objectives / outcomes in line with the approved project document.
S/he will work closely with the international Programme Manager, the Tax Power campaign team and Country Focal Points (CFPs) from each country involved, will act as an ex-officio member of the international project accountability team and will represent ActionAid in engagements with regional partners, allies and other stakeholders.
S/he will be responsible for the project budget of around GBP 2,612,240 including monitoring compliance with contractual requirements with support from the programme.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
Coordinate international and country multi stakeholder committees to support project implementation and ensure accountability.
Supports country teams with data collection and analysis on education rights and production of policy briefs and cross-country reports.
Works with the Right to Education Project and other education staff to popularise the rights agenda and promote networking for advocacy on rights.
Works with international and national Tax Power campaign focal points to ensure linkages between increased fair tax raising and increased public spending on the provision of quality public education.
Ensures that the work being done at local level is linked to the national, regional and international campaigning (research, policy, advocacy, and public mobilization).
Ensures links with other education projects within the federation and that the project is integrated in AA core education workThe successful candidate will have:
At least 5 years’ experience working in an international agency/across countries
Experience of project coordination, including managing complex relationships with diverse partners across multiple locations
Strong record on donor reporting and accounting
Strong media and communication skills
Comprehensive understanding of rights-based programme practice
Comprehensive understanding of the rights of children and the potential to link this work to national and international influencing work
Excellent knowledge and experience for advocacy and campaigning on rights, particularly in multi-country developing context. Public mobilization experience is a bonus
Practical experience of development work in Africa and Asia, particularly with communities living in poverty
Good familiarity with gender and education issues and tax justice issues
Good familiarity with the trends in privatization of education particularly
Excellent strategic and analytical skills
Excellent writing and communication skills
A strong commitment to human rights and ActionAid values
Strong networking/relationship-building skills - ability to anticipate, coordinate and facilitate activities with colleagues
