VSF Germany is an international Non Governmental Organization, providing humanitarian aid and development assistance to pastoralists and vulnerable communities in areas where livestock is of importance. In the region, VSF Germany implements activities in the South Sudan, Sudan, Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia.
With support in animal health, agriculture, marketing, food safety, drought responses and mitigation, but also developing the capacity of communities and governmental institutions or initiating peace and conflict resolution we work towards food security and strengthened livelihoods of pastoralist communities.
VSF Germany seeks to recruit a qualified and experienced professional to support the organization in Managing its Internal Audit function in the region. The duty station will be Nairobi, with visits to the host countries.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance
- Take overall responsibility for the organization’s Internal Audit function in relation to compliance, internal control effectiveness and reporting standards in all Company locations
- Carry out any internal investigations.
- Review and develop internal controls.
- Prepare external periodical & end of external audit plans in consultation with all concerned and monitor progress on the implementation of the plans.
- Follow-up on the progress of implementation of management recommendations.
Audit
- Develop and implement internal audit program.
- Prepare annual audit plans in consultation with all concerned and monitor progress on the implementation of the plans
- Co-ordinate internal audit activities.
- Carry out systems and risk-based audit.
- Facilitate the continuous development of and monitor the effectiveness of the risk management function of the Company
- Review and implement Audit Charter (policy).
- Manage the Internal Audit budget
- Prepare timely internal audit reports and review implementation
Quality Assurance
- Provide quality control over all activities and output of audit staff.
- Supervise, train and appraise audit staff if any
- Plan, organize and implement Integrity trainings for staff as a mitigation strategy to fraud and corruption.
- Disseminate Best Practices identified from individual audits and other sources such as professional journals.
- Review and ensure implementation of internal audit reports.
- Institutionalize IT auditing and governance.
- Develop baselines on systems and procedure and system of
- Testing using best practice and undertaking ad hoc investigations.
- Actively participating in new business initiatives and product launches
- Work with Heads of departments to identify risk areas and mitigation strategies.
- Maintain working relationships with external auditors and ensure implementation of recommendations.
- Any other job related duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Experience, Attributes & Skills required:-
- University Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration (Finance Option) from a recognized University.
- A post graduate degree is of an added advantage.
- CPA (K), ACCA or equivalent, is an advantage
- Five (5) years’ experience in internal audit or having been trained with a professional firm of accountants for at least two years
- Applicants with experience in auditing and IT environments have a definite advantage but must have at least one year experience in auditing
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and staff;
- Registration with the Institute of Internal Auditing or ICPAK or CISA shall be an added advantage.
- Posses a high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail; numerical skills; have ability to prepare audit reports.
