Campaigns officer , Tax Justice Network - Africa (TJN-A)

by Unknown  |  at  9:21 AM

About Us:

The Tax Justice Network - Africa (TJN-A) is a Pan African initiative and member of the Global Alliance for Tax Justice. TJN-A aims to promote socially just, accountable and progressive taxation systems in Africa. We advocate for pro-poor taxation systems and the strengthening of tax regimes to promote domestic resource mobilization. TJN-A aims to challenge harmful tax policies and practices that favour the wealthy and those that aggravate and perpetuate inequality.

As an organization we seek to mainstream tax justice in the economic policy and development discourse in Africa. TJN-A provides a platform dedicated to enabling African researchers, campaigners and policy makers to cooperate in the struggle against illicit capital flight, tax evasion, tax competition and other harmful trends in tax policy and practice.

Stop the bleeding Campaign

Africa loses massive financial resources, about US$50 billion each year through illicit activities of multinational companies and rich individuals. These resources, if retained in the continent, could be invested in productive sectors of these economies to lift Africa’s growing population from under-development and poverty.

The multiplier effects of these losses are much larger. Illicit  Funds Flows (IFFs)from Africa in real terms mean loss of jobs, income, decent education, health facilities and other basic infrastructure critical to structurally transform the economy of countries in Africa and the socio-economic conditions of African citizens

It is against this backdrop that the Interim Working Group (IWG) of the African IFF Campaign Platform comprising six Pan-African organizations namely Tax Justice Network-Africa (TJN-A), Third World Network-Africa (TWN-Af), Africa Forum and Network on Debt and Development
(AFRODAD), the African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), the African Regional Organization of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-Africa) and Trust Africa supported and joined by the Global Alliance for Tax Justice (GATJ) launched the #Stopthebleeding Africa IFF campaign on June 25, 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya.
