Overview:
Ipas is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending preventable deaths and disabilities from unsafe abortions. Through local, national and global partnerships, Ipas works to ensure women can obtain safe, respectful and comprehensive abortion care; including counseling and contraception to prevent unintended pregnancies.
The Youth Advisor (I) is based out of the Kisumu, Kenya office and has country-specific responsibilities to develop and execute innovative strategies for implementing youth-friendly women's reproductive health and rights services. This position provides overall technical guidance on the implementation of projects that aim to improve resource allocation for adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people. The Youth Advisor will contribute to the planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of both the supply and demand-side activities under this project, as well as other projects occurring under Ipas Africa Alliance.
Responsibilities:
- Designs and implements youth-focused programs that increase young people's knowledge and access to sexual reproductive health and rights
- Provides leadership and technical assistance in accordance with Ipas Youth Logframe as well as the Africa Alliance youth work plan
- Works with youth-focused CBO's and sub-grantees to develop and execute work plans
- Provides technical support and program management to the supply and demand-side activities targeting in and out-of-school youth
- Develops content and delivers SRHR training to youth-focused CBO's and young people
- Supports content development and facilitation of Health Systems trainings that focus on young women, CAC and comprehensive contraception including LARC
- Contributes to development of youth-friendly educational materials
- Works with the in-country team and regional support team to develop and write proposals, reports, and presentations, including information for donor documents
- Identifies and establishes new partners and provides capacity-building for the in-country team
- Responsible for tracking results against benchmarks for the youth specific projects
- Ensures adherence to the Ipas Global Monitoring tool guidance for Ipas programs
- Contributes to management of youth project budgets, including budget creation and revision, tracking and monitoring of expenditures, and review of budgets to ensure appropriate spending
- Develop materials to document results, lessons learned, and youth work to internal and external audiences
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in public health, community development social sciences or related field
- Minimum of 5-7 years' relevant experience
- Experience working with youth
- Passion for sexual and reproductive health and rights for youth
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Must be flexible and able to adjust to changes in strategy and workload
- Experience with project management and budgeting
- Ability to travel up to 40%
