VACANCY FOR INTERNSHIP POSITION IN KWALE
Build Africa Kenya (BAK) is a Non-Governmental Organization committed to developing the potential of young people and supporting their participation in sustainable development programmes. BAK is implementing a new programme Intervention in Kwale, benefiting girls in 72 public primary schools in Msambweni and Kinango sub-counties. The overall aim of the project is improving the educational rights and outcomes for girls in the county by addressing factors that impede girls’ education both at school and within the community. The intervention is a joint partnership of Build Africa (UK), Build Africa Kenya, Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW) and Kwale Welfare Education Association (KWEA).
Job Purpose
We will be recruiting an internship position for ****4**** ****months (Sept – Dec 2015).**** The intern reports to the Project Coordinator and is responsible for high quality programme activity implementation which includes: Community mobilization and engagement in girls’ educational rights promotion, ensuring meaningful involvement of girls and their parents in the project, training, community partnership and liaison, data capturing and reporting. The job holder will be expected to continually observe day-to-day effectiveness of programme delivery noting and reporting any areas where improvements are possibly necessary.
Key Accountabilities
- Preparation of monthly programmes implementation plan
- Project activity implementation
- Support M&E activities
- Programme implementation and routine reporting (monthly)
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day to day aspects of projects as assigned
- Effectively plan and implement core project activities according to the BAK work plans and document feedback for the activities done.
- Prepare and submit accurate project activities progress reports as required
- Make continual informal observation of BAK programme delivery, noting and reporting any potential problems, notable successes and suggestions for improvement.
- Constantly track project expenditure to ensure prudent use of resources
- Ensure that communities and key stakeholders are meaningfully involved in BAK’s activities
- Communicate the activities progress and challenges if any to the project manager
- Foster linkages, networks, collaborative ventures and partnerships for effective project delivery
- Support and ensure child rights and protection is maintained by the project team and stakeholders
- Perform any other duty relating to the programme as may be assigned by your supervisor
Person Specifications:
- Minimum of a relevant first degree with at least 2 years’ demonstrated experience in implementing development projects.
- Experience of directly working with the communities, especially on girls’ education or rights promotion
- A person with high integrity that will model BAK’s core values
- Culturally sensitive and demonstrates keen awareness of the local cultures
- Ability to relate effectively with children.
- Awareness and enthusiasm for Child Protection issues

Terms:
The successful candidate will be given a monthly stipend to cover travelling expenses and other costs incurred in the course of internship.
