The Program Officer will lead efforts in developing clear and powerful advocacy messages, products, and processes tailored to target audiences at country, regional, and global levels. S/He will work closely with the Program Officer – Advocacy Research and Data Analytics, the Knowledge Management Officer (KMO) and key staff in the Communications Unit.
****Specific responsibilities will include:****
- Providing high quality editing and formatting for all program related documents;
- Supporting relevant program staff in organizing and managing seminars, workshops, press conferences and field visits as required;
- Supporting relevant program staff in progress reporting and continuous analysis of the achievements, including peer review as relevant;
- Verifying and de-conflicting information with originators at HQ and in the field;
- Identifying and prioritizing issues for inclusion in regular system-wide operational reporting, including news/media reporting on priority matters relating to global events;
- Summarizing information and developing supporting graphics to produce and approve regular operational reports;
- Developing and updating advocacy and communication strategies in collaboration with other staff;
- Lead agreed campaigns strategies and developing key messages and identifying channels of delivering them;
- Creating a network of development media and journalists to work with throughout our strategy;
- Building key relationships with other institutions defined as partners or potential influencers; and
- Designing and facilitating implementation of advocacy training to AGRA management and staff.

****Key qualifications, knowledge and experience required:****
- A Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Development Studies, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field;
- A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in advocacy reporting and communication with significant experience in development-related activities in Africa;
- At least three (3) years’ senior-level management experience in advocacy or public relations with exposure to approaches and methods for stakeholder mapping, assessment and targeting;
- Experience in planning and coordinating major public events and campaigns;
- Sound knowledge and experience in training report preparation and communication;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a team orientation and strong collaborative skills.
- Ability to communicate and translate fluently between English and French is highly desirable.
