The Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) is the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau for Global Health's flagship maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH) program, with a focus on 24 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of ending preventable maternal and child deaths (EPMCD) within a generation. The program is focused on ensuring that all women, newborns and children most in need have equitable access to quality health care services to save lives. Nutrition work within the program will focus on integration of nutrition within MNCH programs; Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) interventions; promotion of the essential nutrition actions and strengthening leadership and advocacy at county level.
We seek to recruit a Nutrition Technical Officer who will lead the MCSP team in the implementation of the Nutrition activities in Migori and Kisumu County. S/he will provide technical expertise, management, coordination and support supervision of Nutrition activities within the region and ensure maximum integration of project activities across and within technical areas. The Nutrition Technical Officer will be based in Migori and will report to the Project Technical Advisor.
Specific Duties and responsibilities:
- Lead implementation of MCSP Nutrition activities in Migori and Kisumu County
- Manage the project's Nutrition technical implementation working with other members of the MNCH team to ensure maximum integration of all activities
- Assist with development of work plans, proposals, budgets, liaising with Ministry staff regarding implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs
- Continue, improve and expand Nutrition services at all imperative sites in Migori County for high-quality standards and efficient services
- Ensure successful transfer of mentoring and service delivery ofNutrition to the MOH by supporting leadership, direction and coordination and ultimate decision-making
- Input to Nutrition service delivery
- Prepare periodical technical and administrative reports in a timely way
- Ensure appropriate linkage between Nutrition and MNCH clinical services with other health and non-health activities within the project.
- Any other assignment as may be requested by the immediate supervisor.Required Skills
- Strong programming, management and technical skills
- Experience working with MOH personnel and good knowledge of health systems and programs.
- A demonstrated track record of providing mentorship and supervision for strengthening healthcare services; training in quality improvement approaches
- Excellent analytical, communication and report writing skills
- Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS word, Excel and PowerPoint Experience
