Background
Protection International aisbl (PI) is an International NGO based in Brussels which aims at contributing to the improvement of the protection of human rights defenders throughout the world, through developing their capacity to manage their own security as they struggle against impunity and develop their activities in favour of a sustainable peace and justice in their respective countries or regions. PI seeks to contribute to a situation where human rights defenders are recognized as legitimate actors for social change and to an environment where they can effectively exercise their rights to defend universally recognised human rights.
To this end PI is implementing a worldwide Protection Programme for Human Rights Defenders, and has established Protection Desks in partnership with local partners or Regional Offices in Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, DR Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Indonesia and Thailand.

With a view to extending its financial capacity, PI is looking for a Fundraiser Consultant for Kenya/DRC, who would work under the direct supervision of the Protection International Representative in Kenya.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare a one year regional fundraising strategic action plan (with a focus on Kenya, DRC as well as countries in the region with high funding perspectives). Traditional and non-traditional sources of funding should be included (institutional donors, foundations, private companies, others). Detailed list of donors and contact information shall be provided.
- In line with the strategic action plan, in coordination with Kenya PI Representative and PI Head office, prepare proposals (at least 4) to major donors identified.
- Compile a list of countries in Africa that have funding and possibility of PI to branch off to. List should also include the donors and contact information.
- Provide Inputs into current PI fund raising strategies with a view to improve them.
Skills and requirements:
- Have extensive knowledge and proven success in fund raising of at least 5 years.
- University degree in law, human rights, political science, social sciences or related field.
- Ability to prepare reports and conduct presentations on key issues by formulating positions, articulating options concisely, and making and defending recommendations.
- Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate, implement and review work processes and plans.
- Excellent written skills, proven ability to write and speak concisely and clearly and communicate effectively; in English and French.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision but able to take direction
- Ability to quickly assess PI and begin working immediately.
- Ability to form good working relationships with different branches of PI- Head Office and Representatives for DRC/Burundi and Kenya.
- Advanced communication skills.

- Proven team work skills.
- Experience in a multi-cultural and/or international work environment.
- Diplomacy and extensive capacities to deal with challenges and situations of conflict constructively,
- Ability to work under pressure .
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written French and English are a precondition. Kiswahili will be positively valued.
Terms & Conditions:
- 6 months contract
- Based in Nairobi, Kenya
- Applicants need to hold a valid work permit for Kenya
