Deputy Child Protection Officer - Kakuma

Lutheran World Federation/Department for World Service Kenya Program is seeking to recruit a Kenyan national for the following position in Kakuma/Kalobeyei** refugee camp:
Position: Deputy Child Protection Officer
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure that Unaccompanied, Separated and other vulnerable children arriving are identified upon arrival in the refugee camp, their social history documented, foster families identified and the children are placed in appropriate care arrangement.
  • Coordinate and Monitor alternative care arrangements for UASC.
  • Assess and identify the psychosocial needs of children in the camp.
  • Monitoring response and follow up of child abuse case identified within the camp.
  • Coordinating activities on access to education for vulnerable children.
  • Develop and facilitate training plans to address children identified needs.
  • Prepare and submit weekly/monthly and feature reports as required.
  • Build the capacity of and supervise refugee staff to perform similar duties.
  • Undertake Best Interest Determination (BIDs) for unaccompanied and separated children in collaboration with child protection agencies.
  • Facilitate proper documentation of BID reports of unaccompanied, separated and other vulnerable children.
  • In collaboration with other agencies facilitate tracing and reunification of unaccompanied and separated children with their relatives.
  • Assist in formulation of proposals based on the needs of children in the refugee camp.
  • Collaborate with other LWF sectors and implementing partners in order to ensure smooth implementation of activities.
  • Any other duties that will be assigned to her/him.
Qualifications and Experience
· Must have a diploma in social sciences, Development studies, Developmental Psychology or related field.
· Degree in in social sciences, Development studies, Developmental Psychology or related field will be an added advantage
· Training in child counselling skills is an added advantage
· At least 2 years’ experience in child related areas in a humanitarian setting
· Experience in proposal development, planning and implementation of child focused projects.
· Excellent communication, organization and presentation and leadership skills
· Understanding of child protection laws and issues.
· Experience in the use of computer packages
· Possession of a Certificate of Good Conduct
