The Aga Khan Foundation (East Africa) is seeking dynamic and qualified candidates to implement AKF’s expanding youth programming in Coast and the Arid and Semi-Arid Land in Kenya.
The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, non-denominational, international development agency promoting creative and effective solutions to selected problems that impede social and economic development in parts of Africa and Asia. In Kenya, AKF is managing a robust and expanding portfolio of multi-sectorial initiatives that includes programmes in livelihoods, education, early childhood development, health, nutrition and civil society strengthening.
Project Officer (2 positions)
Key responsibilities:
The field officer will be expected to assist project coordinator in planning and implementing youth programming in Coast (Lamu) region and the ASALs (Garissa and Mandera) at grassroots level by ensuring project is delivered on time and within the scope and budget. AKF’s youth programming is implemented primarily by AKF East Africa, in partnership with other CSO partners and the Government of Kenya. The Project Officer will mobilize stakeholders and engage them in project implementation, including state and non-state stakeholders by conducting local CSOs mapping and facilitate CSOs capacity assessment in close liaison with the Project Coordinator. S/he will assist in day to day monitoring of the project activities to continuously learn best practices and address challenges and ensure prudent utilization of project resources, and timely reporting of expenditure.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A native of Lamu or Garisa County.
- University degree in community development, social sciences, or education
- At least 3 years working experience in community development, implementing youth related projects in Lamu or Garisa counties.
- Experience implementing agribusiness, value addition, youth enterprise development projects or general concept of livelihood programming for youth in marginalized areas
- Exceptional written and verbal skills and ability to communicate and interact at all levels of the organization
- Flexible, professional with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities with strict deadlines.
- Excellent skill in Microsoft excel Word. Ability to ride a motorbike will be an added advantage
