The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is working with African governments, donors, NGOs, the private sector and African farmers to significantly and sustainably improve the productivity and incomes of resource poor farmers in Africa through agricultural development.
AGRA has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and a regional office in Accra, Ghana with a presence in several other African countries including Ethiopia, Mali, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Malawi, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Sudan and Liberia.
AGRA is seeking to recruit experienced and exceptional individuals to fill the position of AGRF Convener;
The African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) is the coming together of a group of donors {AGRA, OCP, Syngenta, YARA, AFAP, SACAU, The African Development Bank, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Rockefeller Foundation (together the “AGRF Partners”)} for the impetus of promoting investments, public – private opportunities and policy support for driving the vision contained in the Malabo Declaration and Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Program (CAADP). It focuses on bringing together African Leaders, Policymakers, Development Specialists, Scientists, and Representatives of Agribusinesses and Farmers’ organizations to advance investment and policy support strategies for agriculture value-chain development in Africa. The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (“AGRA”) has committed to hosting and supporting the implementation of the AGRF as the Secretariat with a discreet program within the legal personality of AGRA.
The AGRF Convener is the senior leader for this Secretariat, with the lead responsibility to provide strategic, programmatic, and management support for the Forum and its workings throughout the year. Reporting to AGRA’s Chief of Staff & Strategy in the Office of the President, the AGRF Convener manages a host of external senior relationships with critical institutions in the African agricultural landscape working closely with the program, administrative and finance teams of AGRA on all issues. This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya with frequent travel, up to 30% per month.
Specific responsibilities will include:
· Managing the development and execution of an annual forum averaging between 500 to 1200 participants, covering a budget of more than USD 1.5 million, and spanning multiple locations, and be accountable for delivering the AGRF strategic objectives including preparing & managing the annual budget;
· Coordinating the setting up of various thematic working groups and communities of practice to discuss critical issues relating to the AGRF mandate via a range of convening/ discussion fora, virtual dialogues and events to outline key advocacy messages and influence key policy makers;
· Identifying and managing resource-persons to provide technical and logistical support to the Forum;
· Working with the Partners Technical Group as the Secretariat by convening and facilitating meetings to advance the interests and information needs of AGRF’s target stakeholder groups for the purposes of scaling demonstrated agricultural models across the value chain;
· Coordinating the production of an AGRF Results Framework aligned to the Malabo Declaration and from 2016 produce an annual accountability report highlighting progress made by key stakeholders who attended the AGRF;
· Working with technical experts to develop and disseminate regular publications and papers on topics of interest in the agriculture sector with the aim of attracting potential partners for AGRF and increasing AGRF’s voice in critical discussions on African agriculture as a way of marketing the forum;
· Overseeing the design, creation, and maintenance of Knowledge Management system by collecting information /evidence of demonstrated models used across agricultural value chains by AGRF partners and other stakeholders;
· Coordinating design and maintenance of the AGRF website and other communication platforms as required;
· Coordinating and managing the African Agriculture and Food Security Prize (formerly the Yara Prize) process and relevant communication in regard to the prize;
· Serving as the line manager for the AGRF Executive Officer and any other staff or consultants who are appointed providing strategic advice and support for AGRA’s convening and ensuring that there is alignment with the AGRF vision.
Key qualifications, knowledge and experience required:
· Minimum of a First degree in Management, Public Administration, Public Relations, Communications, or any business-related or partnership-focused area. Master’s degree is an added advantage;
· At least 8 years of post-qualification experience in managing complex conferences similar to AGRF;
· Minimum of three (3) years’ management or coordination experience working on teams in a large multinational development agency dependent on multiple actors;
· Proficiency in the use of standard computer software applications
· Excellent communication skills with demonstrated proficiency in English language, both written and spoken. Working knowledge of French is desirable;
· Excellent cross cultural skills, ability to work in a diverse, multi-cultural NGO environment, with respect, professionalism and gender sensitivity; and
· Ability and willingness to travel frequently across the Partnership’s countries.
