Organizational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UNHABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing Administrative, conference, Security and information services (www.unon.org).
The UNON / DCS / PCS / ITU internship is for 4 months with a possibility for extension depending on the needs of the Organization. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief, ITU/PCS/DCS, the intern will:-
- 1.Communications - assist in updating and managing DCS communications (Safaricom and Telkom bill), updating phone numbers and locations
- 2.Inventory management - assist in undertaking, updating and reporting on inventory database of conference equipment and accessories.
- 3.Reports - preparing daily / monthly / weekly reports for all meetings held in and outside Nairobi
- 4.User support - providing technical support for DCS staff and delegates, setup of computers for conference and training
- 5.New telecommunications installation - installation of IP phones at user's site and maintenance of telecommunication equipment in both hardware and software
- 6.Assist duty technical team in setting up, operating and maintaining conference equipment during meetings including voice recording in all official languages of the meeting.
- 7.Assist in setting up and operating Web streaming infrastructure
- 8.Assist in preventative maintenance as per schedule on conference systems are carried out as per established guidelines.
