Development of brand concept and design/layout of promotional materials for Msafara

by Unknown  |  at  5:57 AM

BACKGROUND
Msafara – Caravan of Aspiration is an extraordinary journey across Africa aiming to discover young leaders and inspire tens of thousands of brilliant innovative ideas across the continent. Inspiring events will be coupled with on-and-off-line peer-to-peer mentorship and group seed-funding enabling the aspiring youth to put their talent to use. Msafara currently plans to pilot these activities in Kenya and Tanzania.
This ambitious project will provide the largest ever sustainable talent realizing platform, where peer to peer African leadership/mentorship can take place. In short, this project seeks to unlock Africa’s youth and inspire a continent. In fact, this project seeks to inspire an entire generation in Agriculture, Environment, Science, Business, Sports, Governance and Arts. To realize our dream we picture a road show from Cape Town to Cairo, from Dakar to Dar Es Salaam. The Caravan (Msafara in Swahili) - that age-old way of African travel - would stop in capitals and rural hotspots throughout the continent to deliver inspiration-orientated events.
OBJECTIVE
The objectives of the assignment detailed in these Terms of Reference are to create and produce a branding concept – identity, look and feel – including integration of the concept into a series of promotional products for the Msafara project as part of an awareness campaign to profile the project and promote participation of young people in Kenya and Tanzania.
TASK METHODOLOGY
The following tasks will be undertaken to achieve the objectives of this assignment:
Task 1: Prepare an inception meeting report and work plan
The consultant will hold an inception meeting with the Msafara team to (i) review and discuss the process for conducting the assignment, (ii) determine roles and responsibilities (iii) identify preliminary background information related to the assignment (iv) finalize a draft work plan and timetable. The final work plan and an inception report will be prepared by the Consultant within one week of the meeting, and submitted for review, feedback and approval. The work plan will guide this assignment to facilitate timely completion of all tasks and satisfactory end results.
Task 2: Develop Msafara Branding Manual and create and supply a campaign logo and slogan to be used on all promotional products of the Msafara project
The consultant will develop a brand manual that will guide all the design work carried out by Msafara. The brand manual will be used to set up an identity for the Msafara project. The consultant will also develop the concept and creative design of a logo for the Msafara Project. The logo should represent the nature of the project and capture the spirit that is targeting young people. The consultant will develop at least three possible logos and slogans for consideration by the project team. Once the logo is completed and approved, it will become the core ingredient of all visual products created by and for the Msafara project in its campaigns and other communication initiatives. The brand manual will include different layouts of the logo, i.e. both vertical and horizontal formats and should guide use of the slogan or taglines in combination with the different layouts. The brand manual should be clear on the technical specifications of the colors and fonts to be used for ease of maintaining brand identity in future reproductions.
Task 3: Design and layout of branded merchandise.
The consultant will be responsible for the creative concept, design and layout of promotional materials using the approved logo, colour scheme and other specified information to complete the art work. The draft design will be submitted to the Msafara team for review and comments, and adjustments made by the Consultant. Once the design is finalised and the artwork is approved, the consultant can produce the promotional material subject to competitive pricing or pass it on to a supplier to be indentified by the Msarafa team.
Task 4: Develop and disseminate of online publicity materials
The consultant will be responsible for development of online publicity materials targeting young people. These materials should be used in the website and social media sites to generate publicity and interest in Msafara.
