The Nile-Sec intends to employ the services of a Water Resources Modeller to strengthen its Water Resources Management Department, in general, and implement the water resources management program of NBI.
i) Scope of work
- Provide expertise in the development of DSS new add-ons and lead their development, testing and integration
- Contribute to DSS user community activities through sharing of experiences, providing training, and resolution of DSS use related issues
- Conduct periodic technical workshops and trainings on the application of the NB-DSS
- Provide analytical support including compilation and quality assuring water resources and related data, developing model setups, scenario analysis and evaluation of strategic options for water resources management
- Contribute to the preparation of strategic papers, including supporting technical analysis and review of working papers.
- Contribute to the modeling impacts of Climate Change on hydrology of the Nile Basin and development of Climate Change resilient water resources development and management options
- Provide technical/analytic inputs to the preparation of knowledge products;
- Contribute to the preparation of training modules on water resources modeling and use of NB DSS
- Supervise consultants’ performance to ensure the relevance and quality, including reviewing of technical documents.
ii) Qualifications and experience
- · At least Masters level degree in water resources systems engineering, hydro-informatics, hydrology (with focus on water resources modeling) or closely related fields.
- · In-depth knowledge and understanding of surface water hydrology and hydrologic modeling technologies, with special emphasis on large-basin hydrologic modeling.
- · Proficiency in an advanced programming language; such as (C++, Visual Basic, and Java) is a significant advantage.
- Five (5) years of qualifying experience (after MSc degree) in river basin modeling, with focus on water balance modeling, water allocation, simulation of river-reservoir systems involving key water use systems (such as hydropower, irrigation), flood control benefits of regulation systems, rainfall-runoff modeling and optimization modeling.
- · Familiarity with hydrodynamic modeling of river systems is a significant advantage.
- · Demonstrated expertise with at least two water resources modeling software packages is a requirement.
- Experience in formulation and solving optimization problems in water resources
- Five (5) years experience in the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in water resources.
- · Knowledge of routine statistical methods.
- · Strong multi-cultural and inter-personnel skills; experience in working in multidisciplinary team is a significant advantage.
- · Demonstrated technical writing, analytical, presentation and reporting skills.
- · Strong English language skills (spoken and written); working knowledge of French is an advantage.
- · Experience working with or in regional/international organizations is an advantage.
- · Experience working in Africa, particularly the Nile Basin countries, is preferred.
