IT Network Administrator Job at World Vision Kenya

Financial Authority / budget: None
Purpose of the position:
IT Network Administrator is responsible for planning, design, installation, configuration, upgrade, optimization and maintenance of global IT network solutions and platforms. 
Strategy
  • Strategizes designs and manages the operation of the platform or project under Network/Telecom responsibilities which includes national platforms and projects.
  • Development of Network/Telecom strategy aligned with business and IT strategies.
  • Management of Network/Telecom operations for national platforms and projects.
  • Conducts technical research on network / telecommunications upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system.
Project planning 
  • Conducts short- and long-term planning to meet business requirements.
  • Reviews network schematics, diagrams, and other program documentation to assist with development and preparation of cost estimates.
  • Short- and long-term plans for Network/Telecom systems that meet business needs.
  • Contribution to cost estimate development.
Design/Develop
  • Works with client teams to gather requirements.
  • Leads, creates, and collaborates with cross functional teams to come up with build design documents that can be implemented.
  • Determines requirements impact on existing architecture, work processes and systems.
  • Ensures proper communication/ review of requirements and integration for impacted areas.
  • Participates in technical design review of applicable national projects.
  • Explains to non-SME's how the proposed solution will support their requirements.
  • Requirements and design for Network/Telecom solutions meet the needs of the business.
  • Buy-in for proposed solutions.
  • Contribution to technical design reviews.
Administration
  • Plans and validates the installation, configuration and maintenance of network architecture such as WAN and LAN.
  • Researches, analyzes and recommends the implementation of software or hardware changes to rectify any deficiencies or to enhance network performance.
  • Works with other technical staff to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems.
  • Certifies the functionality of telecommunications components and services.
  • Network/Telecom system hardware and software components meet the needs of the business.
  • Network/Telecom system hardware and software maintained to provide the highest level of availability and performance of systems to users.
  • Software or hardware modifications implemented to resolve issues.
  • Network/Telecom upgrades and components meet the needs of the business.
  • High quality and effective monitoring/administration and security levels of Network/Telecom systems
Security
  • Assesses service performance risks and assists development of contingency plans.
  • Ensures security procedures are applied.
  • Responsible for the security operation of the platform under his responsibility.
  • Analysis and identification of performance risks and plans for mitigation.
  • Evaluates, selects and implements tools to improve the quality and effectiveness for monitoring/ administration tasks and enhance security levels
Telecoms
  • Configures and maintains routers, switches and hubs for the enterprises’ telecommunication network.
  • Plans, updates and validates voice network configurations.
  • Coordinates the deployment of new telecommunications components and services with the client and support teams.
  • Certifies the functionality of telecommunications components and services.
  • Ensures capacity planning is performed according to specifications.
  • Develops and implements strategies to identify future client and technology bandwidth and capacity needs.
  • Telecom system hardware and software components meet the needs of the business.
  • Analysis and resolution of Telecom issues.
  • Development and implementation of strategies to address future client and technology bandwidth and capacity needs
Audio and Video conferencing
  • Accountability for the entire life cycle of solutions assigned, including architecture, design and implementation. 
  • FCAPS MANAGEMENT (Fault, Configuration, Accounting Performance, and Security):
  • Analyzes network activity and network problems to discover and prevent systematic errors.
  • Recommends network design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance.
  • Analyzes facilities bandwidth requirements and system interdependencies.
  • Develops capacity planning models.
  • Assesses network performance to ensure that it meets the present and future needs of the business.
  • Provides network performance planning recommendations to senior management.
  • Network/Telecom systems availability and performance meets the needs of the business.
Business Continuity
  • Designs and assists in the development of a comprehensive disaster recovery plan.
  • Assists in the development of disaster recovery plans with service providers and network carriers.
  • Ensures disaster recovery plan testing activities are performed and technical criteria are met.
  • Ensures readiness of enterprise-wide network /telecommunication plans.
  • Development of a comprehensive disaster recovery plan
Vendor Management
  • Works with vendors to resolve network / telecommunications problems.
  • Assists in negotiation efforts for contracts with external vendors or individuals.
  • Ensures that external parties are adhering to contract requirements.
  • Evaluates services provided by vendors and recommends changes.
  • Evaluates vendor solutions to ensure compliance with requirements and cost-effectiveness.
  • Network/Telecom problems resolved quickly.
  • Contribution to development of vendor contracts to ensure alignment to business needs.
  • Evaluation of vendor service to ensure compliance with requirements and agreed to service levels (SLAs).
  • Ensures invoices are accurate and discrepancies resolved, if required.
Customer Support
  • Provides support for connectivity or related network/ communication issues for the user community.
  • Provides documentation, training, and guidance for computing system clients and programmers.
  • Provides responsive support for problems found during normal working hours as well as outside normal working hours.
  • Issues resolved in a timely manner.
  • Computing system clients and programmers receive required support through documentation, training and guidance.
  • Issues diagnosed and resolved with minimal disruption in service to users.
  • Provides Level 2 support.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves problems.
  • Documents problems and resolutions for future reference.
  • Resolves and consults on the most complex issues especially dealing with zero outage.
  • Issues diagnosed and resolved with minimal disruption in service to users.

Qualifications:  Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Telecoms, Information Systems, or other related field. 
  • Requires 5 – 7 years of relevant networking work experience.
  • CCNP or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of WAN & LAN technologies.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems configuration and administration
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.  Must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Customer-focused.  Must demonstrate a strong willingness to meet the customer’s needs while balancing the organization’s needs and priorities
  • Demonstrates eagerness and aptitude for acquiring necessary technical knowledge, skills and judgment to accomplish a result or to serve a client's needs effectively

Working Environment / Conditions:
  • Work environment:  Office-based with frequent travel to the field
  • Travel: 10% Domestic/international travel is required.
