Job Description
Function:
You will oversee the implementation of the Pastoralist Integrated Livestock Project (PILP) in Samburu County. The role is responsible for planning, implementation, staff and resource management, monitoring & evaluation, quality reporting, financial control and budget management, programme development and associated stakeholder and partner relationship management.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the programmes Manager you will:
- Assume overall responsibility for the management of the staff, resources and office in the project implementation areas of Maralal, Samburu County including the establishment of the Maralal Field Office.
- Coordinate and ensure the development and delivery of a comprehensive training curriculum and the subsequent training of groups in group dynamics, animal health and Heifer Cornerstones.
- Under take all project livestock placement, establish and implement a pass on strategy and peer farmer system to support groups.
- Establish in collaboration with the government an effective extension infrastructure to support farmers.
- Produce timely and accurate project reports, at regular monthly, quarterly and annual and biennial as per the project donor contract.
- Organizing, planning and facilitating functions such as field days, exhibitions, case studies and participating in meetings to increase Heifer Project International visibility.
- Participate in the development of new initiatives including the scaling up of the Heifer Livestock Value Chain Development work in Northern Kenya in Small Ruminant and Climate Change Initiatives.
- Develop quarterly and annual workplans and budgets for the project and ensure that the plans are clear on how to monitor the budgets and workplans to ensure project spending and implementation are on track.
- Facilitate monitoring and evaluations of project results and processes and ensure that quality standards are adhered to as well as lead the field data collection processes for the baseline, mid- term reviews and final evaluations and any impact assessment studies
Required Skills
Minimum requirements:
- Degree in Animal Production/Science, Veterinary Medicine, Range Management and or other equivalent qualifications plus post graduate qualifications desirable in a relevant professional discipline.
- 7 years relevant experience in extension, animal health, community development work, with minimum of 4 years at a supervisory/ managerial level.
- Thorough knowledge of programming processes, systems and principles, and the ability to provide leadership and support to staff working at community level.
- Sound understanding of integrated development issues and critical analysis of child poverty.
- Knowledge of development issues, trends, challenges and opportunities and implications to community development.
- Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning processes.
