Internews Europe has designed the “Media for Peace” project to enable Somali civil society actors to engage and address the causes of conflict and improve inclusive, transparent and accountable governance at all levels. This action’s primary goal is to work with already existing institutions to develop and produce open/free and fair governance dialogue, and to engage the general public in awareness and discussion about Somalia’s future. . Through improved media capacity and amplification of the voices of civil society and citizens Internews aims to enhance the information environment surrounding governance issues in Somalia in order to promote peace, recovery and development. This project directly supports the on-going need for a media strategy in Somalia whilst promoting dialogue and reconciliation by training media professionals to address these issues and facilitate dialogue between media, civil society and government.
A set of three specific objectives is addressed through inter-locking activities that increase the overall capacity of journalists and civil society actors to promote vibrant community engagement in discourse around democracy, justice and conflict resolution.
This is a two-year project funded by the European Commission. The project started in February 2014.
Scope of Work:
The Project Director develops, manages (programmatically and financially) and coordinates all INTERNEWS activities in Somalia in the framework of the European Commission DCI-NSA funded project “Media for Peace”. S/he will play a vital role in leading and managing the implementation of this project in Somalia, overseeing project staff and representing the project to all stakeholders.
