The NRC Somalia Programme is part of the NRC Horn of Africa ,Yemen, Uganda & South Sudan regional programme. Operations in the region began in Somali land in 2004, expanded to Puntland in 2006, South Central in Somalia and Kenya in 2007. Since 2011, five more programmes have been established in the region: Ethiopia, Yemen Djibouti, South Sudan & Uganda. Recently the NRC South Sudan and Uganda programmes were incorporated into the region. Prioritized activities focus on shelter and infrastructure construction; water, hygiene and sanitation; emergency education including youth education; protection; food security and distribution; and Information, Counseling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) . The Regional Office is situated in Kenya (Nairobi), with a country office in Addis Abeba (Ethiopia), Juba (South Sudan), Mogadishu (Somalia) and Sanaa (Yemen) and Adjumani (Uganda) The Area Manager in Puntland is responsible for overall coordination and management of the Programmes in the area. Job description
· Overall management of the Core Competencies activities, field offices and staff within the specific area, including the Area Management Team (AMT)
· Development and execution of the strategy for the area
· Adherence to NRC policies and donor requirements
· Emergency response capacity in the area
· Safety and security of staff

· External representation, coordination and relationship building

· Exploring new hard to reach areas of programming in Puntland area
· Paying particular attention to return and seeing how NRC can be positioned for the return
Qualifications
· Relevant education, preferably in management, social sciences or international development
· Minimum 3 years of experience from working as a Senior Project Manager in a humanitarian/recovery context
· Previous experience from working in complex contexts
· Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
· Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
· Fluency in English, both written and verbal
· Solid field experience, preferably from return/IDP programmes
· Experience in capacity building and training
· Experience in staff management
· Experience of management of projects to deadlines
· Experience in logistics/administration management
· Experience of coordination and advocacy work
· Proven management and programme development experience
· Solid experience from development of proposals, budgets and reports
