The Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement is composed of 189 national societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation is the largest network of humanitarian actors, with 100 million members and volunteers. The Red Cross in Norway has 130 000 members and close to 30 000 volunteers carrying out activities through the more than 400 offices locally based.
The mission of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement consist of 189 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Red Cross Committee.
The International work of the Norwegian Red Cross (NorCross) is implemented through and in close cooperation with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners.
NorCross has currently 10 African National Society partners that are implementing health related programmes both bilaterally and multilaterally.
Norcross has worked closely with the SRCS since early 60ies and has provided financial and technical support to the Somali Red Crescent related to the continuous emergency situation.
The Country Manager will be responsible for the follow-up of all NorCross supported programmes in Somalia and be the main counterpart for the Somali Red Crescent Society, the Federation Somali delegation and the ICRC Somali delegation. The position will be based in Nairobi and includes extensive travelling to Somalia. The Country Manager for Somalia reports to the Norwegian Red Cross Regional Representative for Eastern Africa.
Main responsibilities
- Provide analyses of political, socio-economic and humanitarian trends in the country and provide strategic guidance to the development and composition of the Norcross portfolio
- Coordinate NorCross’ bilateral and multilateral health activities in Somalia:
0 Advise and support in developing operational plans
0 Advise and support on security management
0 Ensure financial follow up
0 Ensure quality of applications and reports - Maintain and ensure efficient communication, information flow and coordination with the regional team
- Develop and maintain close partnership with the SRCS and other relevant partners in the Somali context
- Maintain communication vis-à-vis the Norwegian Embassy, international donors and external partners
- Ensure close cooperation and monitoring of NorCross supported activities in the country
- Support and guide the NorCross HQ Task Force in case of an emergency situation/disaster response, in close coordination with the Regional Representative. Liaise with Movement partners and other relevant actors.
Qualifications
- Relevant university degree or equivalent
- At least 3 years relevant work experience including field experience
- Skills in programme management, implementation, planning, budgeting, and reporting
- Skills in capacity building
- Advanced computer knowledge
- English proficiency
- Red Cross/Red Crescent experience is preferred
- Relevant work experience from Africa is preferred
