Role overview
Help Self Help Centre (HSHC) is a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) aimed at enhancing the living standards of people in the Mt Kenya region; their goal is to boost commercial production among smallholder farmers and support them to access better markets. Working the Marketing and Value Chain Development Manager, the Food Technologist volunteer will support relationship building with suppliers and customers, as well as ensuring products are profitable. You'll also: support safe and efficient development, modification and manufacture of food products and processes through training staff and implementing a production line, identify relevant markets to target products, improve methods of quality control, sourcing of raw materials, food preservation, processing, packaging, storage and delivery, report of aspects of your work and more.

Skills, qualifications and experience required
You are a qualified food technologist with at least 3 to 5 years experience. You have a degree level qualification in food science or food technology and ideally a post-graduate qualification in either. You have good attention to detail, good team working skills and communication skills. You should have a background or interest in working with non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Experience in branding is also advantageous. In addition you’ll willing to learn how to ride a motorbike.
