Being a Safeguarding Advisor for Oxfam is about protecting those we work with. You understand that NGO workers hold a privileged position of trust, and with that comes responsibility to respect the dignity of those we support. Unfortunately, you know that there are also occasions when this privileged position can be abused for sexual gain. As sexual exploitation and abuse can never be justified, Oxfam GB’s unique, dedicated Safeguarding Team, pioneers work to address this issue.
What will I be doing?
As a Safeguarding Advisor you will have responsibility for investigating allegations of sexual abuse made against Oxfam staff. You will also work closely with Oxfam staff, partner organisations and beneficiaries to raise awareness about Safeguarding. This post fits within a wider Safeguarding function, and has lots of support available. There are also excellent opportunities for global travel, as well as investment in personal development.
What background do I need?
This is an emerging area of work and we are offering an unparalleled opportunity for specialist development. The main thing is that you understand and care deeply about the issues. You have a strong motivation to do this work, and want to see your efforts rewarded with improvements across the sector. As for experience, are you in:
- HR/Employee Relations – and looking to apply your transferrable investigation/training skills?
- Gender/Protection – and interested in the challenges organisations face internally around GBV?
- Programme Accountability – and keen to specialise more on PSEA?
This is a 2 Year Fixed Term National Contract.
