Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD) works to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities and campaigns for the removal of barriers that hinder them. LCD works internationally in over 50 countries throughout Africa and Asia, supporting thousands of people with disabilities through programmes that focus on inclusive education, livelihoods, advocacy and campaigning, and care and support.
LCD has been awarded a grant from the UK Government (DFID) to deliver a project in the Lake Region, Kenya through the Girls Education Challenge (GEC). The project aims to increase the enrolment of girls with disabilities in primary schools in this region, increase their learning and improve their life chances. This project will address physical and social barriers to education to ensure that more girls with disabilities access education and improve their learning in 50 primary schools in Nyanza, ultimately receiving a full, quality and inclusive primary education. The project began in July 2013 and will finish in March 2017.
The Project Officer will provide admin and programme support for the implementation of the project. They will assist in developing and maintaining project deliverables under the direction of the Inclusive Education Manager, play an active role in developing, maintaining and updating monthly, quarterly and annual project activities timelines, coordinate medical and educational assessments of children with disabilities and facilitate their enrolment in school, ensure the involvement of families and communities in project implementation, support the implementation of community awareness raising events and community based training workshop, gather and report on data against the project indicators, particularly those in the logframe and assist in a variety of administrative duties including disseminating project information to stakeholders and arranging logistics for meetings, training workshops and other project related events.
