Organizational Setting and Reporting
The Post is located in the Quality Assurance Unit within the Office of Management. Reporting to the Methods and Oversight Officer, Quality Assurance and under supervision and guidance of the Chief Quality Assurance, the Audit Assistant is responsible for providing assistance in the preparation of audit programmes and execution of audits, preparing reports supporting audit observations, and providing assistance to Internal and External Auditors. The Incumbent will also assist in managing the administrative matters in the Section.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Auditing and Methods functions
- Assist in the preparation of audit plans and execution of audits, due diligence reviews, business processes or internal controls assessment engagements; Assist in keeping track or the implementation of recommendations from the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS), Board Of Auditors (BOA) and Joint Inspection Unit (JIU).
- Examine and test-check financial and/or personnel, and/or administrative documents with a view to ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and suggesting improvements;

2. Support and administrative functions
a) Provide assistance to the United Nations OIOS, the BOA and the JIU in collecting documentation and other information for the conduct of their audit and oversight assignment;
b) Maintain of up-to-date audit recommendation control database; tracking and reporting of status of audit recommendation implementation;
c) Act as the focal point for the inventory control management;
d) Assist in carrying out the Programme Support Division work-plan;
e) Liaise with UNON Service Units and UN-Habitat divisions and out-posted offices on matters related to methods and oversight;
f) Perform any other duties and responsibilities which are within the incumbent's expertise and experience, and which can be reasonably expected from the incumbent;

a) Perform research/ obtain background information related to the subject audited
b) Prepare reports and compile documentation supporting audit observations;
c) Search for, retrieve, compile, assemble and archive a variety of data from computer files, records, report or from other sources;
d) Maintain archives of all audit related files;
e) Document internal control systems and standard operating procedures, assist in ensuring compliance and reporting;
f) Keep a Database of all delegations of authority, assist in ensuring compliance and reporting

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Further education or courses in accounting/auditing/finance is highly desirable.
Work Experience
At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in audit support. Experience from an international organization would be an asset. Familiarity with UN financial rules and regulations preferred.
Language
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post fluency in English is required. A working knowledge of French or other official language of the United Nations would be an asset.
Other skills
Knowledge of systems such as IMIS, MS-Office software especially Excel and Access and audit software
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
