Assistant national technical manager

Chemonics seeks an assistant national technical manager for the ongoing USAID Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) project in Somalia. Under the supervision of the national technical manager, the assistant national technical manager will help gather and disseminate relevant famine early warning information. The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, with short-term travel to Somalia and occasional travel to Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and the United States. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct integrated food security analysis using FEWS NET methods and tools
  • Prepare FEWS NET reports and other products, helping to ensure quality control and timely delivery
  • Support all FEWS NET activities in Somaliaby, collaborating with FEWS NET experts in Somalia, the region, Chemonics' home office in Washington, D.C., and network partners
  • Support remote monitoring in selected countries
Qualifications:
  • ​Master's degree in agricultural economics, agronomy, nutrition, climatology, anthropology, social geography, or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience in early warning/food security information systems, food security analysis, and other related fields
  • Excellent computer skills, GIS applications, and mapping skills preferred
  • Excellent English speaking and writing skills and excellent Somali speaking skills required
