About Walk Free: Walk Free is a movement of everyday people fighting together to end modern slavery. We're a new type of organisation, one that brings together a grassroots base with the research and policy expertise needed to move big business and big governments to make, implement and enforce the decisions necessary to end this evil trade. Walk Free aims to amplify and extend the efforts of the many groups around the world working on the front line against slavery. By gathering a global membership, using social networks and new technologies, and organising campaigns and communities online and on the ground, we can make the fight against slavery a real priority across the world.
The Walk Free Action Network is a pioneering new approach to campaign partnership. In 2013, we will forge a deep campaigning partnership with one leading national anti-slavery organization in each of our 10 target countries: Australia, Brazil, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Philippines, United Kingdom, United States.
Walk Free will financially, strategically and technologically support each partner to develop online and offline grassroots campaigning power to change the laws, practices and policies necessary to combat modern slavery in each national context.
As a Country Campaigner you will lead the initiation and implementation of the Walk Free Action Network in your designated target country (or set of countries).
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Campaign Support: Your primary objective will be supporting the partner organisation(s) you work with to deliver regular, effective grassroots campaigning using our cutting edge suite of digital tools. This will involve practical and strategic training as well as day-to-day consultation and assistance on each stage in the campaign, from selection, to design, to execution, to follow up.
- Strategic planning for campaigns: In addition to the campaigns your partner organisation will plan and implement, you will be involved in larger international and regional campaigns. Your role will be to plan and execute a variety of issue campaigns across social media channels, including, but not limited to, advocacy, fundraising, email recruitment, audience/activists growth, event organizing, brand visibility, awareness/supporter education and product/content promotion.
- Program Design: This is a new program, based on a bold new model. You will help refine and improve the program over time including – regular evaluation, taking initiative on program optimization and participating in planning meetings for program expansion.
A successful candidate will have:
- 4-5 years' experience running political and/or issue advocacy campaigns online and off.
- Strong, demonstrated management skills, ideally with experience managing across distance.
- Experience working with social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter.
- International experience with grassroots campaigns and non-profit outreach, ideally including both global north and south.
- A self-starting, entrepreneurial work-ethic.
- A strong demonstrated ability to plan, evaluate, and lead complex initiatives with a focus on social and political change.
- A burning passion to end modern slavery in our time.
- Familiarity with the country or countries you are applying to work with.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering in-person presentations, webinars and trainings.
Expect significant travel up front to start and build your partnerships, and to spend lots of time on the road, both in your designated countries and with our core team in Perth, Australia.
