Fondazione L’ Albero Della Vita (FADV) is an international NGO with Headquarters in Milan – Italy. Since 2010 FADV works in Kenya in partnership with local authorities, development agencies and civil society organizations for the design and implementation of community based projects focusing on child protection in urban settings and increasing the resilience of pastoral communities against the risk of food insecurity in ASAL areas.
The Project Manager is responsible for the startup, the technical and administrative management of a project implemented in Samburu East sub-county in collaboration with the county government and other public and private stakeholders. The project will aim to increase the capacity of pastoral communities to timely and efficiently manage the risk of food insecurity during periods of prolonged drought. Main planned activities include (i) the development of Drought Risk Reduction Plans at community level, (ii) the introduction of improved livestock techniques and high yielding breeds of cattle, (iii) the introduction of improved techniques for horticulture and beekeeping, (iv) the construction of water sources for human and animal consumption, (v) sensitization activities in schools on environmental protection. The position is based in Lodongokwe, a rural community located in Samburu East sub-county. The Project Manager is expected to move frequently in the project’s catchment area and Maralal. The Project Manager reports to FADV Program Coordinator. Staff directly reporting to the Project Manager include 2 Field Officers and 1 logistician/driver.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for the technical coordination of the project activities, in close collaboration with the Program Coordinator and local partners.
- Develop and regularly update a detailed implementation plan in accordance with the approved project’s timeframe and budget.
- Prepare narrative and financial reports on monthly basis.
- Carry out regular review meetings with partners.
- Keep an efficient organization of the field office and the staff employed in the project.
- Work with the Program Coordinator to develop concept notes and new project proposals.
- Promote and develop new and innovative technical approaches on livelihoods diversification.
- Carry out representation and coordination duties in cluster/sector meetings.
- Represent FADV in technical meetings with donors and stakeholders.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Rural Development, Veterinary Sciences or any other related field. A master degree on the mentioned disciplines is an asset.
- At least 3 years work experience as Project Manager in an international or local NGO.
- Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking capacity.
- Result-oriented and problem-solving aptitude.
- Proven experience on Human Resources management.
- Good attitude to team building.
- Strong monitoring and evaluation skills.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Willingness to work under pressure and in isolated contexts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Home and Business.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili. Knowledge of Samburu language is an asset.
- Previous work experience in ASAL areas in an asset.
- An understanding of child rights and their protection within community development projects.
