Fund Raising and Advocacy Manager

Background
Center for Education and Development (CED) is a Non-Governmental, non-profit and non-political humanitarian and Development Organization established in 1992 with the main of advancement in education, humanitarian aid delivery and developmental programs in Somalia. CED works with vulnerable communities in order to eradicate illiteracy, insecurity, poverty, injustice and inequality. Its main areas of interventions include but not limited to education, emergency relief, livelihood, food security, agricultural support, Water and Sanitation,(WASH) Nutrition, Peace building, governance, capacity building, environmental protection and women and youth development. CED has implemented projects funded by various partners including Oxfam Novib and its affiliates, UNHCR, UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, UNOCHA, FAO, and CARE International among others. Most of CED’s projects were implemented in Banadir Region (Mogadishu), Lower & Middle Shabelle, Galgaduud and Mudug regions of South-Central Somalia.
CED seeks to recruit qualified and committed Individual to join CED management team and fill the position position of a fundraising and Advocacy Manager.
Responsibilities
Under the overall and supervision of CED Executive Director, the Fund Raising and Advocacy Manager will assist the Executive Director in accomplishing the Vision, Mission, and Strategic Objectives of CED.Primary responsibilities include fundraising and resource development; external communications; advocacy; cultivating and maintaining relationships with partner agencies, donors and other stakeholders; participating in the representation of the organization in various arenas; and serving as member of the Senior Management Team of CED.
a.Fund raising:
•Manage and provide guidance to ensure clear and achievable fundraising objectives; and positive and effective relationships with the internal and external donors •Develop a sound, achievable, comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet the objectives set above. Lead and coordinate the senior management staff team to implement the plan efficiently and effectively. •Ensure that the fundraising strategy of CED is adequately diversified and includes tactics in specific areas such as major donors; web based giving, foundations, corporate support, etc. •Collaborate with Communication and Reporting Officer and other staff across the organization in order to ensure consistency in representing CED to potential donors and other audiences.
b.Advocacy: •Manage, provide guidance to, and ensure CED advocacy team members have clear and achievable objectives; the resources and institutional support needed to carry out responsibilities; and positive and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and with counterparts in Somalia •Collaborate with appropriate CED staff and seek input from the ED to develop the policy agenda for CED •Work with advocacy staff to ensure a strong, consistent advocacy voice in a variety of strategic settings (Inter agencies, NGOs, Clusters, etc.) to advance CED’s issue areas and to develop business opportunities •Represent CED in meetings of the UN Clusters, International Agencies, donors and other technical and coordination meetings on behalf of CED. •Assist CED in advocacy, lobbying, and campaigns, project funding and fund-raising. •Prepare and design high quality concept papers and identify sources of funding for new programs. •Ensure collection of information, synthesis and production of good advocacy materials aiming at promoting CED’s work to the donors •Work with the Communications and Reporting office to ensure production of wide range of information such as publications, leaflets, DVDs, videos reports etc in order to help CED to carry out effective fund raising and advocacy activities.
c.External Relationships: •Support the advancement of CED mission through the nurturing of existing relationships associated with current Programs and through the establishment and strengthening of new partnerships to enhance the role of CED in humanitarian relief and development work •Participate as appropriate in the representation of CED in varied forms such as national and international conferences, partner and donor agency meetings, etc.
d.International Collaboration and other; •Serve effectively as a member of the Senior Management Team, communicating and consulting on personnel, programmatic, financial and other issues related to Program development and management •Establish a comprehensive and timely reporting schedule across the organization to anchor communications, fund-raising, and advocacy strategies. •Undertake appropriate domestic or international travel to accomplish the responsibilities of the position.
Qualifications: required training and experience
•Advanced University degree in communications, media studies, international development, humanitarian affairs, international relations, social science or other relevant area. •Minimum of 5 years relevant working experience with NGOs and Donors particularly in the area of fundraising, advocacy, communication and information management. •Strong experience in fund-raising and partnerships strategies. •Good information management and analyses of information.

Languages
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
Contract period: one year, with possibility of renewal
