UNOPS–Somalia Office works with multiple partners including the Governments of Somalia, bilateral and multi-lateral donors, and United Nations Agencies, Funds and Programmes. In keeping with the New Deal architecture UNOPS is particularly interested in strengthening its coordination and liaison capacity with relevant Government institutions, Government led mechanisms and emerging trust fund instruments.
Functional Responsibilities
The Head of Office has the following main focal areas:
- Manages and supervises all UNOPS Operations at the country level;
- Ensures the sustainability of the Somalia Office;
- Represents UNOPS in the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and in relation to Government and all relevant stakeholders;
- Increases UNOPS profile, partnerships and business in developing a vision and strategic plan to position UNOPS as a viable and attractive service provider of choice;
- Increases the effectiveness and quality of delivery of the Somalia Office portfolio;
- Ensures the timely completion of quality projects within budget limits and with full cost recovery;
- Provides support to the Director Kenya Operational Hub, the AFO Regional Office and the Executive Office with regard to the regional and global enhancement of UNOPS as a respected service provider.Education
- Advanced university degree (with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience) in any of the following; Social Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Management, Engineering, or other fields related to the work of UNOPS;
- A first-level university degree with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years work experience (combined with an advanced university degree) at the national and international levels in social development, business development, management, and programme management;
- A first-level university degree in related fields combined with at least 12 years of experience in a similar responsible position;
- Previous work experience in a hardship duty station, conflict zone or post-conflict environment;
- Experience in networking with local government and international entities an asset.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in spoken and written English required.
- Knowledge of a second UN language and/or the Somali language an asset
