JRS social workers will work with refugees in Kakuma refugee camp to assess their specific needs and monitor and evaluate their progress.
Responsibilities include:
- Interview clients to understand their situations, needs and strengths
- Develop a database for all persons with specific needs within Kakuma refugee camp
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies and other partners to address cases of abuse or neglect
- Help improve the situations of vulnerable clients by recommending adjustment to their health care, lifestyles or housing
- Assess clients referred directly to him/ her
- Provide psychological first aid to clients when necessary
- Ensure that clients' records are kept up to date and that the principle of confidentiality is adhered to
- Meet regularly with the programme coordinators and report progress and challenges of persons with specific needs
- Identify and develop an understanding of clients' problems
- Refer persons with specific needs to service providing agencies, follow up on referrals and evaluate the impact of the intervention offered
- Collaborate with Counselling Coordinator in conducting needs assessment, reaching out to partner agencies, identifying training needs of focal persons and specific groups within Kakuma camp, developing new training modules and assisting with the facilitation of the weekly in-service training
- Be actively involved in advocacy on behalf of refugees
Qualifications and experience
- Undergraduate degree/Diploma in psychology, counselling, social work or related field
- At least two years practical working experience in community service and social work
- Experience in managing teams
- Ability to build effective partnership and collaborate with other team members.
- Ability to work sensitively with refugee population of different ethnic background and/or demonstrated experience and commitment to working with marginalised communities
- Excellent communication skills in English (written and oral) and good knowledge of MS word/Office
