GRM Futures Group in Kenya
GRM Futures Group is in the process of significant growth in Kenya. It currently implements 10 health, education, and development projects with nearly 80 staff at the present time, and expects to grow to over 100 staff over the next year. About two-thirds of the staff is based in Nairobi and one-third is in different counties throughout Kenya. GRM Futures Group staff work on projects funded by USAID, the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Australia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and UK Department for International Development (DFID).
Position Summary
GRM Futures Group is seeking a Human Resources & Security (HR&S) Manager to administer integrated human resources and security policies and programs with business needs in its Kenya office. The HR&S Manager will be responsible for the management of risk and the implementation of the necessary security mitigation measures relating to GRM Futures operations in Kenya to ensure best practice and the protection of employees, consultants and visitors, infrastructure and equipment. S/He will also work to ensure current HR practices/systems are working at optimal level, while scrutinizing the operation for improvement opportunities and adaptability to meeting changing business requirements. As a subject-matter expert, the HR&S Manager will guide project staff to the resources available to them for their employment needs.
The HR&S Manager will have direct reporting line to the Kenya Country Manager located in Nairobi and indirect reporting lines to the Global Security Manager and the Global Director of Human Resources.
Key Responsibilities
HUMAN RESOURCES
- Prepares employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs.
- Writes directives advising department managers of Company policy regarding equal employment opportunities, compensation, and employee benefits.
- Consults legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with national law.
- Develops and maintains a human resources system that meets top management information needs.
- Maintains a pay plan by conducting periodic pay surveys; scheduling and conducting job evaluations; preparing pay budgets; monitoring and scheduling individual pay actions; recommending, planning, and implementing pay structure revisions.
- Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; scheduling management conferences with employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; counseling employees and supervisors.
- Maintains employee benefits programs and informs employees of benefits by studying and assessing benefit needs and trends; recommending benefit programs to management; directing the processing of benefit claims; obtaining and evaluating benefit contract bids; awarding benefit contracts; designing and conducting educational programs on benefit programs.
- Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records; representing the organization at hearings.
- Maintains management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.
- Maintains historical human resource records by designing a filing and retrieval system; keeping past and current records.
- Completes human resource operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
SECURITY/DUTY OF CARE
- Ensuring a safe and secure working environment for all employees, consultants and visitors.
- Ensuring that all employees, consultants and visitors receive a comprehensive risk and security briefing, and that their presence in country thereafter is monitored and adequate response to any concern or incident provided.
- Ensuring that all company employees are provided with the correct level of risk and security related information on a continuous basis.
- Ensuring that a relevant country wide Security Plan and Standard Operating Procedures is maintained at all times, and that they are read, understood and applied by all company employees. Provide regular feedback and recommendations to the company's Global Security Manager on the relevance and effectiveness of the plans.
- Ensuring that the programs are provided with the relevant and correct levels of outsourced security provision.
- Conducting regular site visit and security audits on all GRM offices and other infrastructure in Kenya.
- Ensuring that the necessary Occupational Health and Safety requirements are in place at all program locations.
- Performing analysis and investigations on all security related incidents and write follow up reports.
- Liaising with security agencies and appropriate government authorities and keep abreast with security regulations in Kenya.
- Ensuring that that all programs have the appropriate levels of HEAT, driver, trauma and first aid training.
Qualifications
- 5-7 years' experience with Bachelor's Degree or 3-5 years with Masters in Human Resources
- Five years in the military at officer or senior non-commissioned officer rank
- One to five years of commercial experience in the security industry (not essential).
- Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with standards practices, policies, procedures, regulation or government law.
- Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues.
- Ability to work autonomously with a flexible approach
- Demonstrated understanding of the confidentiality of discussions and records
- Excellent client management and business literally skills
- Experience in an International Development company preferred
- Flexible and available to interact with employees at all levels in different time zones
- High level of professional credibility and integrity
- Knowledge of Kenya Labor Law
