Trócaire works in partnership with local organizations to overcome poverty and promote justice in developing countries. The Kenya Country Programme comprises three thematic areas: Sustainable Livelihoods - Arid and Semi Arid Lands Resilience Programme (ARP); Governance and Human Rights; Gender Based Violence and HIV/AIDS. A senior position has arisen in the Governance and Human Rights Programme.
The Role Purpose
The Governance and Human Rights Programme works with 10 partners to improve access to justice and increase the accountability and responsiveness of the state and its institutions. It does this by strengthening civil society’s and local communities’ capacity to demand equal rights and engage in productive dialogue with state actors on key areas of reform. This role leads and manages the Governance and Human Rights Programme, is responsible for the delivery of programme results and actively participates in the Kenya Country team.
The Person Specification
- Third level qualification (preferably Masters) in Political Science, Governance, Development Studies or other relevant field
Experience, knowledge and skills
At least 3 years of experience in governance programming with a bias towards a Human Rights Based Approach to Development. Minimum 3 years additional development experience working in a partnership context.
Excellent understanding of programme cycle management, and application of advocacy strategies to promote positive development outcomes. Experience of staff management and mentoring, proven experience in managing institutional funding (such as EU, DFID, Irish Aid)
Good understanding of NGO financial management systems, budget monitoring and reporting
Excellent facilitation skills and experience of applying them when working with individual partners or groups of partners
