The International Rescue Committee has been working in Somalia since 2006, providing essential services to conflict and disaster-affected communities. The IRC has been operational in South Central (Mudug, Galgadud, Banadir and Nugaal) regions of Somalia, implementing interventions in the areas of Livelihood, WASH and Health, GBV, Governance and Rights reaching out to more than 200,000 conflict and drought-affected population in these regions.
Scope of Work:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Livelihood Officer, the Women’s Economic Empowerment Officer will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the economic empowerment program in both Galkacyo and Mogadishu. This includes supervising community members, conducting regular VSLA Training of Trainers (TOT), monitoring field activities, collecting data and providing mentoring and coaching support to women’s savings groups. He / She Officer will also be responsible for conducting Group Discussion Series and monitoring the implementation business skills training.
The Women’s Economic empowerment Officer will play an active role in building up community capacity.
Specific Responsibilities:
Programs
- Supervise and provide technical support to community volunteers.
- Participate in and help to organize all VSLA or savings groups Training of Trainers
- Organize and participate in monthly meetings with community members
- Conduct frequent field visits to monitor and provide capacity building support to community volunteers.
- Facilitate the Discussion Group Series with savings group members and spouses.
- Monitor implementation of business skills training and report findings to the Senior Livelihoods Officer.
- Collect monitoring data for the VSLA and savings groups’ components of the economic empowerment program as per the monitoring system in place.
- Work closely with Senior Livelihood officer to create detailed weekly and monthly work plans.
- Attend staff meetings and training events as required.
- Carry out any other tasks as required.
Required Qualification/Experience & Competencies:
· Bachelor’s degree in business administration, social work and social administration or related field.
· Strong experience working with community groups.
· Great communication skills and ability to clearly and effectively convey complex concepts to populations with limited numeracy and literacy skills.
· Excellent training and mentoring skills.
· Familiarity with savings and credit schemes (VSLA methodology preferred).
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work as part of a team and to foster team spirit.
· Belief in and understanding of gender equality, women’s rights and empowerment.
· Willingness to travel to field sites frequently and, preferably, experience working in GBV Programs and in rural settings.
