The HSF officer role is to to safeguard and improve the public health of the affected population by: promoting safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services; ensuring appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities.
Participate in data collection during needs assessments, baseline and other periodic studies, and help feed back findings to the local stakeholders;
Actively participate in staff capacity building forums organized by the project;
Work with target groups in developing criteria for selection of community hygiene promoters (CHPs);
Together with target groups in project locations, select CHPs ensuring gender balance;
Conduct hygiene awareness promotion training course for the CHPs;
Support the CHPs in their respective villages, monitor hygiene promotion activities capture key lessons, and feed them back to improve implementation process;
Guide the target groups in the selection of beneficiaries for hygiene kits and sanitation facilities (latrines) as per set criterion;
Guide in locating appropriate sites for construction / rehabilitation of sanitation facilities;
Coordinate distribution of hygiene kits and sanitation tools;
To participate in design and implement an appropriate monitoring system for hygiene and sanitation awareness promotion activities in line with the project objectives;
Monitor use and maintenance of the hygiene kits, sanitation tools and facilities;
Prepare weekly AWD reports and monthly monitoring reports;
Networking and coordination of hygiene and sanitation promotion activities with other stakeholders and partners
