Background
Danish Demining Group (DDG) is part of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC). DDG is specialised in Armed Violence Reduction and Humanitarian Mine Action. DDG has programmes across the world and implements AVR programmes in the following countries: - Somalia, Yemen, South Sudan, Uganda and Kenya.
The AVR approach is currently implemented at the national and community level. At the national level, DDG seeks to support the authorities with small arms management and support peacebuilding and security sector reform initiatives. The community safety approach is rooted in a participatory process, where DDG assists target communities to assess their safety and security situation, define and prioritise their safety and security needs and identify resources to address these needs. DDG is looking for a highly talented and motivated individual for the position of GIS Project Assistant.
Purpose
Support the Kenya programme in terms of GIS mapping for research and communication purposes.
Key Responsibilities
• Data visualisation and GIS map development.
• Support data collection and verifying exercises.
• Support proposal development and reporting with data, maps and other visualisations
• Carry out desk research on causes and drivers of armed violence.
• Any other tasks as agreed with DDG Kenya CD.

12 months contract with 3 months’ probation period.

Personal Specifications
• A university degree in a field relevant to armed violence reduction, geography, statistics or GIS mapping.
• Substantial knowledge of the Kenya political system from community to national level and a good understanding of regional dynamics
• Experience working on issues related to conflict prevention and management
• Strong qualitative research skills
• Extensive experience of using GIS mapping platforms
• Ability to develop and manage databases
• Ability to develop websites a plus
• High degree of computer literacy, Advanced user of social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Google+)
• Strong command of written English and ability communicate clearly to various audiences,
• SPSS or other quantitative data analysis tools
• Good interpersonal working relationships
• Strong planning skills with ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
• Attention to detail, Flexibility and professionalism.
