ABOUT GIRL HUB
Girl Hub's mission is to empower the 250 million adolescent girls living in poverty to reach their full potential. Girls are a proven force for change and the catalyst to end global poverty – it's called the Girl Effect.
When you improve a girl’s life through education, health, safety and economic opportunity, these changes have a positive ripple effect on their families, communities and nations. Our work aims to shift the social norms that hold girls back, and drive better investments that directly benefit girls. Everything we do is based on what girls tell us they need and what will work for them.
Girl Hub is a strategic collaboration between DFID and the Nike Foundation. We currently operate in Rwanda, Nigeria and Ethiopia with headquarters in London.
About Girl Hub Ethiopia (GHE)
The starting point for everything Girl Hub Ethiopia does is to understand what it means to be a girl in Ethiopia. Our research uses engaging and participatory approaches to better understand girls’ lives, aspirations and challenges. We work with policy makers, donors and partners in the private sector, who can deliver large-scale programs and ensure girls are at the heart of the development agenda in Ethiopia.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Girl Hub Ethiopia Communications Manager, you will be expected to ensure that all communications activities are in line with the overall GHE strategy to transform the lives of girls. You will have strategic oversight of, as well as responsibility for, the following areas of work:
Powerful storytelling
Using powerful stories to deliver real change for girls in is the central role of the communications team. You will oversee, manage and create content for GHE’s media platforms – for example, the Girl Hub blog and the Girl Effect website, as well as providing regular updates on our internal storytelling platforms.
You will work closely with our global communications team, to make sure that girls’ voices are heard and amplified, both in Ethiopia and around the world, through the powerful content you create across a range of channels.
You will also maintain and develop relationships with members of the Ethiopian and international media and be proactive about creating media opportunities to help further the Girl Effect.
You will ensure that all content produced by the team or contractors adheres to GHE’s editorial guidelines and Safeguarding Girls policy.
Creating communications and campaigns that influence others to take action for girls
Working closely with the Country Director and Girl Specialists (policy advisers) you will devise and implement communications and campaign activities that will help others understand ‘why girls?’ and encourage them to fund, design and deliver girl-centred programmes in Ethiopia.
You will develop and manage communications plans for individual projects and initiatives, making best use of available channels and external opportunities.
You will be expected to build on and create partnerships with counterparts in NGOs and private sector companies, as well as maintaining good working relationships with government bodies and donor organisations in Ethiopia.
Working with the Girl Hub global communications team, you will make sure that data and evidence gathered by GHE is published and promoted internally and externally to help further the Girl Effect globally.

Working closely with the brand and global communications teams, you will oversee all communications activity for Yegna, Girl Hub Ethiopia’s flagship radio programme and music, that is working to change attitudes and behaviour towards girls in Ethiopia.
You will design and deliver positive PR moments for the brand – for example, outreach activities such as concerts, roadshows or competitions, with the objective of inspiring Ethiopian girls and increasing the consumer audience for the radio programme.
You will work closely with GHE’s Monitoring and Learning team to ensure that we continually tell the story of what we are learning from the Yegna project and the impact it’s having on girls’ lives in Ethiopia.
Girl Hub Ethiopia core communications and events

You will play a leading role in shaping and delivering events and managing high-level visits.
Management and leadership
